Default FS: S52 + M3 5M/T + Extras (in Running/Driving Chassis)

FS: 318ti with M3 Drivetrain (S52, OBDII, M3 5 sp., 318 3.91 lsd) + FREEBIES!

EDIT: TAKING ALL OFFERS. REASONABLE OFFERS WILL NOT BE REFUSED - I NEED TO MOVE THIS THING.

Hi, All.

I am selling my 318ti with M3 Drivetrain. The M3 engine and transmission were swapped over from a car with approximately 70,000 miles. The donor car got hit in the rear so there was no damage to the drivetrain forward of the rear axle. The donor car was owned, from new, by a 60-year-old woman and boy does it show. The engine is a peach and the transmission and clutch are PERFECT. The engine pulls STRONG all the way through the power-band and the transmission and clutch are super crisp and tight. No clutch-slip at all. The car was definitely NEVER ABUSED. I bought this car as a project (was going to swap the drivetrain into a clean 318ti shell to build a rally car) but I’ve got some priorities that I need to sort right now. Therefore, this project is getting shelved.

This car runs and drives well. I have actually put about 5,000 miles on it since I bought it in February. Therefore, this engine currently has about 75,000 miles. Of course, the chassis is junk, but this is a tremendous opportunity for someone to do a direct swap into their existing 318ti. This is NOT a “bring-a-trailer” type of deal. This car can be driven home without issue.

Niggles:
This car has only THREE TINY NIGGLES: First, there is a check engine light. This must be something to do with a faulty O2 sensor but I can’t guarantee it. During COLD start, the car tends to want to stall if you don’t give it enough gas and, once you get it going, it hesitates and chokes below 1,200rpm. Over 1,200rpm it’s perfect. And this is only when it’s cold. After about 1 or 2 minutes, you can let the clutch out without any gas and the car pulls away beautifully on its own.

Second, this car does NOT like to idle with the A/C on. There seems to be a sticky relay somewhere so after a few minutes of sitting at idle, the car will start rumbling. This rumbling continues after the engine is shut off and the key is put into second position. This leads me to believe that it’s a simple electrical gremlin like a relay. The AC blows perfectly cold so I know the condenser and compressor work as they should. Heater also works perfectly.

Third, the secondary air pump is starting to “go.” The secondary air pump still works, but you can start hearing that the bearings are worn. At some point this will need replacing.

Work Done Since Acquisition/Freebies:
Two months ago, the car got the following to the tune of over $500 in parts. All work was performed by the masters of BMW restoration – The Werkshop – in Libertyville, Illinois:
1. Brand new, OEM rear springs.
2. Brand new, OEM tie rods.
3. Brand new, OEM thermostat.
4. Brand new, OEM ALUMINUM THERMOSTAT HOUSING.
5. Oil/Filter/etc.

Included with the car are the following:
1. Virtually new, complete leatherette seating kit (to be installed by new owner)
2. 2 x Front OEM M3 wheels with tires
3. 2 x OEM 318ti wheels with tires

This car is being sold as-is with the no warranty express or implied.

I am asking $4,000 for the lot. As I said, arrive, drive it home, and swap the drivetrain into your existing 318ti.

Couldn't send a PM...What year? I know it's post '96. I'm interested in swapping everything into my 95. Especially if the chassis is truly junk.

Hi, Wannabe_M3

I tried sending you a PM as well but it wouldn't let me. The car is a '96 model year with an OBDII S52 attached to the original M3 transmission. The chassis is junk in the sense that is has rust and it leaks water on the floorboards when it rains. It's an ideal candidate for a swap (as I had planned to do myself). The car is driveable and thus can be picked up and driven home.

If you're interested, please post your phone number with a good time to call you and I will do so tomorrow (or even this evening if you'd like).
