Got the new steering rack, tie rods, reservoir and pump in. In this case the AAE replacement was a LUK pump instead of the ZF which was one I had. I am not sure if that will always be the case or if they will reman what they get back. I see the early e36s came with either a ZF or LUK pump. The later ones appear to all be ZF without the threaded housing but the pump itself seemed to be the same as earlier ZF, same mounting holes and pumping pressure by both.

Also I replaced the E34 solid coupler with a new stock rubber one. Feels much better for street driving, I'll take the preciseness hit.

Did the work at BlueBimma's house. His 6.0LS behind mine with N54 swap in progress for red.

Does anyone know the cause for code 1234 / Speed Sensor. It will pop up after about 20 mins of being cleared and then car pulls timing and runs like crap power wise.

I am going to make sure the wire on back of cluster did not come loose but it seems it can be a variety of issue. I have a new fuel pump I am going to replace old one but I doubt that's the issue.

Motor burns some oil and steel leaks It'll be making it's way down to BlueBimma for some final touches and fixes. Going to have some rear brake lines done before the back end is completed. Then body shop to touch up underneath some surface rust. Z3M Roadster springs installed on back. Really made the ride much nicer in MI.

All in all progress is slow and i've only out about 1K on the S52 which is mainly to fix itself. Hopefully I can drive more in the fall.

NOWO 2018 was good. Put a few more miles on it. It’s about to get parked for the winter and hopefully complete some small items on the list for it.

Happy New Year everyone! 2019 is stacked with plans. Finishing this piece is one of them. First thing is I wanted to get matching front 6cyl struts in Koni STR variant. Next were less aggressive lowering springs, bought a 6cyl Vogtland kit (rears will be for sale). Next was all new hardware. Some ain’t pictured but you can see, basically going to make it quick strut change, unbolt old in new. Rest of front suspension has max of 20K on the control arms so it still feels amazing. Painted the reinforcement mounts etc.

Not the biggest fan of the Mishimoto coolant reservoir so I got a stock Behr tank, cap, brass screw and Turtle Laboratories aluminum stock mount. New Rein hoses to complete. Then I can have stock setup and no shroud.

Next will be driveline. I have new Guibo, CSB, centering bushing, new GKN axles, wheel bearings etc and the full rear brakes to do. After that have some engine stuff planned bit that’s time dependent. I’m extremely busy On finishing an E30 as well but I’m feeling optimistic this year.

Car drives fantastic now there are just a few things I’ve wanted to take care of. New fuel lines, pump etc. Anything that may fail and leave stranded be replaced with OE. Should get the car on the dyno this summer as well.

Been way too busy this summer to really do some work on it. Got the front struts in and raised it slightly. Much better for Michigan. Added a new set of Depo headlights while I mess around with the Bosch ones. Using LED bulbs and like over the DDM HID kit, can tell HID still brighter though.

My time has been mainly into the E30 to get that done this summer. But the Ti will get some love

Awsome!

Is the e30 just a clean/OEMish m10 build?

Thanks and ya just a standard M10 E30. Only worthwhile note is Zender body kit. I need to have it done by July as I’m road tripping to NYC in it this Ti sits more often.

I’m not looking forward to gettin the distributor timed correctly. I’ve heard that’s a huge pita.

It looks super clean! I don't know much about timing for a m10, but I wish you luck! Hope it works well.

Thanks! Figured it’s time for an update.

E30 I got completed with the help from BlueBimma. Day prior to NYC trip the reman steering rack gave out so luckily local guy gave me one, filled new fluid and off it goes. Super easy trip from Detroit to Manhattan. E30 handled it well, should considering the rebuild.

Ti has basically sat in garage since. I did send the driveshaft off to Driveshaft Specialist to be rebuilt. New flex disc as well. Slapped on some POR15 as it’s getting old.

Remaining things for the year depending on Covid.

New diff -4.10 brutal for road trips. Someone sell me better
Hood needs painted
With help BlueBimma new brake lines and rear brake refresh. Making headlines sucks.
Fuel pump

Bad news - S52 still leaks oil, out the valve cover and rear, most likely main seal. And will burn oil, under de acceleration.
Best case it’s valve stem seals, worst is rings. Not sure what the course is. It gets maybe 1K miles a year on it so for now most likely it’ll sit. Still fun though.

Slight update/wtf. I have been having code 1234 ever since being swapped. The car had issues but never could get rid of that code. Since I have piles of new parts that needed installed on the chassis and I have to sit at home all summer, I put in a new VDO fuel assembly. Low and behold, I no longer have that code. Driven roughly 300 miles since clearing the cluster and no light, I have no idea why it would do that. Yes the bulb works I don't have much mechanical knowledge of a fuel pump, i was under the impression they either worked or didn't. For context this is the original pump at 190Kish.

Motor still loves to leak no matter what i replace, it leaks again. Though with the help of Liqui Moly additives and just driving it, it's burning far less oil.

Sadly the car sits mainly and prior to recent drive, only had maybe 25 miles on it this year as I am getting old and like a comfortable discreet daily. My friend recently gave me a rough e36 325is, so all these spare parts from the Ti will get a home.

So, you replaced the in tank fuel pump with the gage sender and it cleared the code?

Which one did you install? A new ti one or the M3 one? I’m curious.

My original in-tank pump/sender was replaced under warranty when the car was a year old or so, as it was showing more fuel than I actually had and it left me on the side of the road...

Replaced with a 318Ti unit, but the same model is listed across all E36s up to M3.

It doesn’t make much sense but this is by far the longest time it’s ever been driven without throwing a CEL. Light still works and if I unplug maf it will throw a code.

Wires to fuel pump were fine and the wires on the original pump all looked ok. I did find an old post from mid 2000s on BFC where someone had similar issue and replacing fuel pump fixed their random CEL.

Interesting. I thought the 328 and M3 used a higher volume fuel pump. I’ve never had any fuel delivery problems using the ti pump but figured I’d “upgrade” when mine failed.

I do keep my fuel filter changed often which probably helps.

I thought that as well but from the parts referencing it's all the same. Makes sense if BMW could utilize just one pump vs multiple. It never had fuel issues either.

My next step remove the manifold, replace all the soft fuel lines, possibly some hard and make sure no boots are cracked or aging. Just a general go through and tidy some of it up. Sad I don't see many Tis anymore but that's the rustbelt.
