Laurel, NJ Posts: 390 | plz help, new air intake installation ok i have bought a intake from cosmo racing, but today when i checked the stock air filter box ,to the right side of the air pipe i have smaller pipe that is goin to some other round thing but i dont know what that is and when i take out the air filter box i dont know waht to do with that pipe can u plz tell me what that pipe is plz tahnks for help __________________ Intake, Sony mp3/cd player, remus cat-back exhaust, | | | 09-21-2004, 01:22 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Tucson, AZ Posts: 290 | the hose that is going to the flexi rubber thing connected to the throttle body is a breather or pcv. im not sure which it is on our cars, but it needs to be hooked up. that's how the engine vents the crankcase vapors. it sends them back through the intake to be burned. the new intake should have a port on it to hook the hose to, if it doesnt, you might need to make one. and its very important that it seals correctly at that port, as it will suck unfiltered air through it if it doesnt. if the new intake does not have that port, and if its possible, see if you can use the stock rubber boot as a substitute for that part of the intake. if the new intake is in sections, that is what i would do. __________________ Vince Carknard 1995 318ti Active Hellrot, 16" 5 spoke, "Fogged" airbox mod, Stromung exhaust, Bilstein Sports, BMW sport springs, 3.73lsd, others... | | | 09-21-2004, 01:31 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Indiana Posts: 256 | That is the secondary air injection pump. Not all the cars had them, only ones that were intended to be sold in california or other emissions strict places. What I would do is get a small Crank case breather filter and put that on the secondary air injection pump and hook up the Cosmos filter. That way you won't have to mess up your new intake.
