I've got a '96 ti that I bought just north of Miami (171K mi), drove it up to Boston just fine. I've done a lot of work since owning it (3 months ago), but now it was just diagnosed today with a blown head gasket. Again.

Quick story: About a month ago a local BMW shop said "blown head gasket". Another mechanic said "water pump". So we replaced the water pump and it drove fine leaking no coolant for a month. I had a "knock sensor" engine code along with an "idle control" engine code, brought it in for that repair and this same (second) mechanic said it dumped all coolant in his parking lot. Now he agrees with the first guy, blown head gasket.

My question: Do I attempt the repair as many repair shops local to me are saying around $2K, but the head might be warped which I have no idea what happens if that's the case.. Or do I look for another engine to replace this one..? If so, do I keep the M44 or go with another type..? I've seen M52 or S52 engines or something like that which may be compatible somehow..?

Please help..! I'm a motorcycle guy, not a car guy, but love this little ti. Would love to fix and drive it for a few years but am at a loss with my current situation.
