Default windshield wipers not going all the way down..

so i am contemplating on buying a 318ti i test drove last week. its red, 160k miles on it, just had a water pump replaced, and some other things done. its over all a clean car and felt solid. when i was driving it i tried out the windshield wipers, they wipe good, but that aside they did not go all the way down. they stopped at about a 2:30 position when looking out from the drivers seat. when i got back from the drive i asked the owner what the deal was with the wipers and he kind of fiddled with them. they didnt seem to go down all the way after doing so. he brought up the idea that it could have been dry which may have caused them to not go down.

so my questions are:

-has anyone dealt with this issue before
-does anyone have any suggestions as to what it could be?

i called hime back and told him i was still interested, but before i decide to make an offer id like to have an idea as to why they wouldnt go down.

thanks for the help fellas

My wipers fall a few mm's above the black strip at the base of the windshield at their lowest position.

You can adjust them, pop off the plastic center piece (there is a notch for a flathead) then use a 13mm (?) socket to remove the nut. You have to remove the entire arm and place it back on.

HOWEVER, the adjustment isn't as fine as I'd personally like it to be. I think each notch is about 20 degrees change or so.

Don't let some wiper blades be the final decision on buying a car. You have bigger issues to be concerned with. Make sure the car is sound.

yep, 20v 5 cylinder quattro coupe. its the pearl white with black leather and like 135k miles on it. he is asking 2500 and it looks to be in good shape considering its a 91. but i am kind of ticked cause i have e-mailed the guy twice now and told him i am super interested in it but he hasnt gotten back to me. and he doesnt have a contact number, just e-mail. soooo ive been kind of holding off on this 318 for the time being.
