Default Dashboard Warning Light

Hi All,

My first post on here , so thanks in advance for any help. I've had my 318TI since November last year and love it to bits, alot nicer than my previous cars. It's a 53 plate (2003) Compact. (From the UK btw).

I recently had a new stainless steel exhaust fitted (approx 2 weeks ago). Everything went fine, I opted for to have a de-cat pipe fitted as well. After about 1 week of driving (with the de-cat pipe fitted) the CEL came on. Took the car back to the garage, didn't have the code read as without replacing the Cat it would simply come on again. But they checked the exhaust over and said it looked fine, they put it down to the O2 censos being unhappy at the lack of a cat and recommend I re-fit the cat (a simple bolt on procedure i know) then have the code reset and see if the problem returns.

I plan on doing this soon. However...

Whilst driving to work today the hand brake light came on. This light is red when the hand brake is engaged however remains yellow after disengaging the hand brake. The DSC light also remains on with the hand brake light (both yellow) even though I haven't disengaged DSC. When I start driving I also hear a quick beep as if the car is warning me or something.

Have attached a picture so you can see the two lights I'm talking about.

I've checked the owners manual and it states the following:
Dynamic Stability Control DSC and brake warning light. Telltale lihts remain permanently on: DSC and DTC have been switched off at the button, or arre defective.. Please consult the nearest BWM service.

Now, as I said I haven't disabled DSC or DTC so suspect the later, that it's defective however don't fancy forking out the bill for a BMW service centre just yet.

Was hoping someone might be able to give me some advice, could it be faulty censors? How can I check?

Any help greatly appreciated,

Many Thanks,

Matt

welcome, hate to say it but I don't think you'll have much luck getting info here, very few people here have the E46 ti and the E36 ti has much simpler electronics
