I'm new here and I'm trying to figure out an issue I am having with my 1997 BMW 318ti. When I activate the windshield wipers by pushing up on the windshield wiper stalk, the windshield wipers begin to work but after a few minutes they just get stuck in the middle of my windshield. Once they are stuck, the only way to get them unstuck is to restart the car. Sometimes it even takes a couple restarts for the wipers to get unstuck. If I manually operate the wipers by pressing down on the windshield wiper stalk, the wipers occasionally get stuck, but I can get them unstuck by pressing down on the windshield wiper stalk. I have done some research and I believe it may be either the wiper motor or the wiper relay/module. Opinions?? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much, Mike Last edited by MikeHoward18; 09-16-2016 at 05:24 AM. | | | 09-16-2016, 05:24 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: Georgia Posts: 595 | The wiper motor has an internal contact for wiper in park or not in park position. The contacts could be dirty and may need cleaning. __________________ 1996 Ti 280k miles and still going.... 1993 964 - holding on to this one 2001 Burban, 240k miles 2018 Suburban Z71 | | | 09-18-2016, 02:09 AM | #3 | Junior Member Join Date: May 2016 Location: Illinois Posts: 3 | Thanks so much! I'll give it a try! How difficult would you say it is to properly check the wiper motor internal contacts? Unfortunately, I'm not very mechanically inclined. | | | 10-15-2016, 11:50 PM | #4 | Junior Member Join Date: May 2016 Location: Illinois Posts: 19 | Don't worry, your dad should be able to fix it | | | 10-16-2016, 03:42 AM | #5 | Junior Member Join Date: May 2016 Location: Illinois Posts: 3 | Quote: Originally Posted by Newbomb Turk Don't worry, your dad should be able to fix it | Thanks dad | | | 10-17-2016, 06:24 AM | #6 | Junior Member Join Date: May 2016 Location: Illinois Posts: 19 | Motor replacement fixed the problem. (don't forget to index the linkage) After plugging in new motor, run it and shut it off, this parks motor. Then when attaching motor to linkage, make sure linkage is in a straight line when bolting crank to motor, then install. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
