That what I was thinking too. L8 when you ship it back let it be known that this guy might try to turn in a false claim, so thay have it on record.

Dude, you read my mind.

I even called him and spoke to him about that. I told him I didn't feel confortable about insuring it for more than I paid. He said the retail price is $3000.00, and that is what he insured it for when he shipped it to me. I said it would be "Unethical" to insure it for more than I paid.

In the "Unlikely" event it got damaged or dissappeared on return to him, who actually makes the claim.....I do, I think. I'm not putting myself in a position of fraud.

I'm calling American Express about this to make them aware of what is going on.

In fact, I will talk to the UPS guy, when he comes to pick up the box, and let him know what may happen.

The recipient makes the claim. Insurance is self appraised. You could put down anything you want since you are paying per $100, doesn't mean anyone will make the claim. In their case they can easily claim whatever value unless it is documented somewhere since they are the manufacturer.

I once insured a set of recording tapes for $1,000,000 through air freight.
The value of the tapes couldn't have been more than $100. But what was on the tapes was priceless. And since no one told me how much to insure them for, I just picked $1,000,000. It was the record company's money anyway and better to over insure it than not insure it at all. This was before the days of digital.

It's a potential way for KO to make money off this, through insurance fraud.

I always overinsure too. More just because I imagine UPS will take better care of it given what's on the line.

hehe ... i call the "OOOPS" rather than "UPS" because they tend to break ****. i really don't think they care too much about the value, whether insured or not. luckily, i actually made money off them when they damaged some speakers i bought that were shipped through them. they made mistake after mistake when dealing with the whole thing though. hell, i fed-ex'd a letter to their president by the end of the incident ... i told him i wanted to make sure it got there so i used fed-ex! LOL

They have a excellent chance of making a case for "damaged goods". All they have to do is show them the kit on their website, then show them what came in the box.

Like I said, I'd just not insure it.. Once they refund your CC, ship it without insurance. It's not illegal to return something to a company without shipping insurance.. haha

If you read an earlier message, I mentioned that they want to mail me a check. That means I get nothing till I return it.

I contacted American Express this evening, and told them what is going on. I asked to speak to a supervisor to make myself heard. She told me that I should mail back the parts with delivery confirmation. I would provide Amex with a UPS tracking #, and when the item has arrived, I would get my credit on my account.

So the box of scrap metal goes out this week.

i would make sure to insure it as they said. you don't want ANY ISSUES with claims of damage. take pics of the parts prior to packing and how you're packing them (should use the exact packing materials they used to send them to you). then follow what AMEX said. have all your documentation ready to go, only way to protect yourself.

get your money back!

Ok, I am so tired of this crap.

I too own a small parts company, www.fastenwerks.com , and I am SO tired of these shady as hell companies ruining the reputation of the rest of us companies. I was solicited to buy thier kit for $1800 and carry it on my site, I made the smart move and stuck with DA.

What they are doing to you is so busch league. I would be disgusted if I were you. There are scammers all around. I had a guy buy something from me, use it for a month and file a claim saying it was broken. HE WON! So I have it here and it's just broken. He now wants me to file a claim on it so he can get the $900 he insured it for. It's too bad people like this exsist.

Take thier asses to court. Nothing is fun like a CC dispute. THe merchant is in the wrong 80% of the time.
