I tried finding used rear speakers and haven't been able to and im wondering if it's just easier to go with some aftermarket ones? i know the ti has a weird mounting system for the speakers where most standard size ones wont fit without some moding. but im wondering which speaker would be the best upgrade that still keeps the stock look but provides better sound. i dont mind doing a little modification to the speaker housing if i have to. thanks. __________________ ***Derek*** ^^Lola^^ Pioneer radio/ Pioneer 6-Disk CD Changer/ JBL 601.1 Grand Touring Amplifier/ Bilstein Sport shocks/ Bilstein e36sedan springs/ Green LED Courtesy Lights Accident Counter: 3... | | | 11-05-2010, 01:41 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: Sydney, Australia Posts: 593 | You won't get better sounds without getting an amp and subwoofer. All the after market speakers now are made out of some kind of plastic. They're good in the sense they're more durable, but they loose out on the bass and some midrange. I know from experience. If you can get your paper speakers resealed with new rubber linings, that will restore your sound as intended. All the best with it. | | | 11-05-2010, 06:51 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2009 Location: Maryland Posts: 265 | go onto ebay uk and look for the adapters for 5.25 speakers. i got mine for $20 including shipping. __________________ Quote: Originally Posted by bubela I’m happy in my blissful ignorant euphoria! I went to http://www.ebay.co.uk/ and searched "5.25" speaker adapters" but I don't see anything that is a direct fit. What did you get? Is this it? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SCOSCHE-SABW52...6#ht_500wt_922 __________________ Alpine Weiß 1995 318ti M50tu mostly stock, chip'd 413, AFE Intake. e36 M3 front brakes, e30 M3 rear calipers. e28 3.25 LSD + e30 axles. I think this is it, but this one looks different from the one I remember seeing before. Maybe it's just a different brand? EDIT - I think THIS is the correct one. It looks like what I remember seeing before. I'd contact their customer service and ask first. __________________ Real men know how to SEARCH! I bought Alpine Type-S SPS-400 speakers. It takes a little fiddling, but you can fit them in the original housing by bending the metal tabs forward and screwing them down from the sides. It becomes clear when you start doing it. I am not an audiophile, but I think these speakers produce nice sound with decent base. | | | 11-06-2010, 07:44 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: Sydney, Australia Posts: 593 | Quote: Originally Posted by shnikus I had the same problem. They're on the better side of after market speakers with 50RMS. They're not as good factory unfortunately. | | | 11-07-2010, 12:16 AM | #8 | Member Join Date: May 2008 Location: Bainbridge,Pa. Question is are they worth it over say the Alpine SPS-400 which can be had for $46 for a pair? How long will factory speakers last this time vs the Alpine? __________________ '95 318ti sport. rear light mod. K&N filter. 16" BMW rims. Just modified the housing a little bit and made it work. Thanks for those ebay links too __________________ ***Derek*** ^^Lola^^ Pioneer radio/ Pioneer 6-Disk CD Changer/ JBL 601.1 Grand Touring Amplifier/ Bilstein Sport shocks/ Bilstein e36sedan springs/ Green LED Courtesy Lights Accident Counter: 3... | | | 11-08-2010, 11:52 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: Sydney, Australia Posts: 593 | Quote: Originally Posted by UberWagen I bought some re-man JBL speakers that I think were 5.5" inch for $20 and they threw in a set of free tweeters from a stereo shop nearby. I was thinking of my Scirocco earlier. Here's a picture off of my cardomain. http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_...017_medium.jpg I just very carefully tapped screws into the stock housing. It's been holding up nicely. Yeah, they're small, but the stereo shop owner showed me what they sounded like in his demo car. Jeez. They have really good highs and lows. Not so much bass, but they're really nice for $20. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
