Default QUestion for Club Sport and Sport owners

I just put on and M-tech Sport rear bumper on my ti. I noticed that there is a slight gap between the diffuser and the bumper on at the edges of the black diffuser piece (See pic). On my 330ti CS, the gap is the same, but I noticed a samll piece of black tape/trim that either the factory placed there or the previous owner did. This gap is probably not noticeable on a black car, but is on my white car.

For those with an original M-tech rear bumper that hasn't been repainted since it left the factory, what I want to know is if this black tape in the gap is a factory applied piece and if so, there must be a BMW part number. On realoem.com, there is a part number that related to "foil" that is described as Schwarz, which I believe means black in German. If the factory put this black tape there, then this must be the right part.

ok , heres what i figures out

51 12 2 269 489 is the number for the insert
51 12 2 255 379 is the older number

these numbers are COMPACT ONLY peices..

but this is the single pipe insert.

The twin pipe out (323ti) is

51 12 2 496 320 new number

---------------------------------

these are the SALOON / COUPE / CABRIO and TOURING options

and i think this could be what is on yours.

the numbers for the twin out is

51 12 2 233 364

hmm. mine fits all the way in to the trim .

Mallard,

Thanks for all the info, but I wan't actually looking for the part numbers for the diffuser insert, which I already have.

The question is more specific in terms of the small gap at both end of the diffuer insert where it meets the bumper. Is there a samll black rubber or plastic strip or piece of tape covering the paint in the gap so that it's less obvious. It's a samll detail, but one I would like to know. I will post up a pic of my 330ti's diffusers/bumper gap which has a piece of black tape there. I was wondering if the factory installed the tape or if Ben Liaw did it. Thanks.

Maybe thesk8nmidget can chime in. He just got a CS.

just went out and looked at mine and it looks as if the bumper has a piece of rubber lining(almost like a seal)on the red plastic that the diffuser sits against.

in your picture it would be right where the point of the arrow is

EDIT:uploading picture soon

Oh good grief... you guys made me curious about this so I actually went out to look. LOL My car is black, so it's really hard to tell any difference, but yeah, I can tell that the area in question is flat black rather than glossy. I can see how it would be a bit of an eyesore on a white car, especially if you're picky about such things.

Like "the midge" suggested, you could paint it fairly easily since it's not in an extremely noticeable spot.

Josh and Mallard, thanks for looking for me. So it sounds like I have to fix this little problem. Like you guys said, it's easy, but if you know me, I'll have to buy the OEM "schwarz foil" and do it the factory way. It's called OCD.

BTW, Josh, looks like your passernger side gap is fairly large compared to mine and with no gap on the other side, it sounds like you need to recenter your diffuser so the gap is equal on both sides. Undo the two hex screws on the bottom edges and use a flat screw driver to pry the locking clips from the inside of the rear bumper.

Maybe so, but I'd prefer to buy a used car from someone with OCD because I know it's been taken care of properly.
