Hi I'm looking into buying a 318ti and wanted to know how many miles can you put on the M42 and 44 engines before you start running into problems?

Depending how well you take care of it. Regular maintenance you should have no problem reaching 200K.

Agree, Steven...maybe even more. I once knew a fellow with a 2002 he'd owned since new that went over 250,000 miles. His 4-cyl never had the head off, either...just routine maintenance...very typical of BMW engines.
