cut out while overtaking

Hi all
I have a 99 s plate ti sport which has recently given up on me. the mechanic suspected a coil pack but £80 later still no results. The car just cut out while overtaking a caravan(very embarrasing as he came past me) every light on the dashboard came and now she just wont start. got spark and fuel seems to be coming through fine had a couple of other suggestions from users which i will check out asap. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. I want to spend some pennies on mods to the engine if i get her up and running as i now have a day to day car to abuse and would like to restore her to former or future glory.

Ok this should be easy. Maybe...

1. If you have spark and fuel you need to ensure you have good fuel pressure?

2. None fouled plugs? Your current plugs are sparking correct from the tip to the ground gap, not inside before making it to the tip. Good blue spark?

3. CPS is working correct and firing spark correct otherwise spark with scatter and injection could be eratic.

4. Injectors are firing? Bad positive to injectors will cause all injectors to go down and no fuel will enter the cylinders.

Any codes stored? Do a code read...

When you crank over the motor does it try to start, mis-fire or back-fire or anything?

If you have accurate spark and fuel and compression it will run, it's that simple.
