Default WTB: Thule rack or fit kit 225

Thule fit kit 225 is discontinued. If I can score the fit kit clips, I can get the rest of the rack in order. Ideas? Plan B would be a 2" trailer hitch if there is such a thing...

My friend has one from his 325is, but I don't know if it can still mount on the ti?

I think it has something to do with the way the windows are different on the ti. So the 325is fit kit clips will work on the front but not the back of the rack. Is the stuff for sale? I'd prolly buy the front clips and any rack stuff I find for sale, then improvise the rear.

I just bought the fit kit #225 from a member on here a couple of months ago. Apparently they're pretty hard to come by. Have you tried contacting Thule, perhaps you can special order it. I'm currently piecing my rack together, Thule and Yakima racks are so much better than factory racks in every way. They did make a factory rack for our cars, but IIRC, they're discontinued as well. Personally I thought they were kinda flimsy and less versatile anyway. If you can't get one directly from Thule or Yakima, I'd recommend searching ebay and craigslist every now and then. I'm sure ones bound to pop up sooner or later. Good Luck!

Yessir, it's gotta be Thule or Yakima. I actually know some people at Thule, they may be able to find some clips somewhere around the office I hope. In the meantime I've called every online retailer on the Thule website to no avail. As for Yakima they have nothing listed at all for this vehicle, my last car I drilled holes in the roof to mount a Yakima rack, don't really want to do that o a Bimmer...

keep your eye out on ebay, and the FS forum here. After I found my kit, I found 3 within a week+a factory rack, and nothing since. They seem to appear in surges

Correct that the front kit from any E36 sedan will also fit the front of the ti. IIRC, the rear piece clips to the window frame underneath the closed window and is unique to only the BMW ti.

I have a 225 kit, but rarely use it anymore now that the ti is not my primary car. However, due to the relative rarity here in the US, I'm not sure I want to sell it either. PM me if you can't find one anywhere else...

OK all you guys who want 225 fit kits:
I just got mine in the mail. I went to the Thule website and just ordered from their site. They use this thing called Shopatron which i think just scans all the vendors of Thule and finds the closes part to you and orders it from them. So anyway i got mine shipped to me from New Hampshire! Works great, rack looks awesome. I guess there's no gaurantees that they can find one obviously, but they found one for me! It was brand new in a very old box.

Like Budget M3 said, the front part if the fit kit is the same as the one from the sedan. The rear part, from my research, seems to be the same as the rear from a Dodge Magnum fit kit (fit kit 2178) and from an 08 accord (fit kit 2193). I'm assuming these are the same parts because they have the same part number on the specific foot (#100 clip). This is all unconfirmed, but i was going to try to piece together the rack from a combination of these, if i could find them used and cheap. Just a little extra info if someone comes across these kids cheap.. i THINK you can use the parts together. I DO NOT KNOW FOR SURE so dont buy this and blame me if it doesnt fit. But the number 100 is listed in the instructions for the 225 fit kit and the same number 100 is listed for these other two fit kits. I guess it's possible they are different and 100 doesnt mean the same part that it used to.

Anyway.. what worked for me was ordering from Thule.

I dont know the specific store. It was somewhere in New Hampshire. When i called Thule they told me the same thing. But i just ordered it from the Thule website. They use some thing called shopatron that found it for me and shipped it. Its a third party something or other i guess.

I think the factory rack looks generic like something you'd expect to see with a wallmart bike attached to it. Thule and Yakima have been at it for years and for some reason that's what the pro's use

I'm glad this thread came back up, it reminded me that I need ask Santa for a surfboard attachment
