I honestly can't remember the position of the clip though... i would think it would point "up" in the direction the the cable would naturally go. In reality though, I can't see it really mattering. | Lol, well I managed to do it with just a regular and a stubby flathead and without damaging anything. While removing the old one, i was expecting the tab to break or something, but it didn't. So if anyone ever needs a 4cyl throttle cable, you can have my old one for free That makes perfect sense Philly, the cable should point upward in it's natural direction from under the dash, but as we've already established, it probably doesn't make a big enough difference to actually notice. You guys should have heard me cussing at my brake lines the other day | | | 08-11-2009, 10:02 PM | #33 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | I LOVE MY NEW THROTTLE CABLE. I hope this one lasts me another +230,000 miles. BTW- I am now at 2345xx miles. I hope I remember to take a picture at 234567. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 08-12-2009, 02:23 AM | #34 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | Quote: Originally Posted by 1996 328ti I hope I remember to take a picture at 234567. | bonus points if you can get the trip odometer to read 89.0 | | | 08-12-2009, 03:29 AM | #35 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by tiFreak bonus points if you can get the trip odometer to read 89.0 | I would have had to think about that 89 miles ago. Being that I disconnected my battery to remove my seats, it wouldn't have worked anyway. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 05-17-2010, 03:41 PM | #36 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | I did a search yesterday and didn't come across this thread, was just about to post one. My Throttle Cable frayed up on me yesterday on RT 95s in Mass, went from 75-110 and luckily knowbody in the lanes next to me as i cut across the hgwy to the break down lane. And no this is not a Toyota....lol I ordered a new one from bavauto this morning but just was curious if anyone knew of a write up on it. I didn't see anything in my bentley manual.... Guess after skimming through this it appears it should be somewhat easy to replace. __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | 05-17-2010, 03:54 PM | #37 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | There is no writeup but Cooljess' photos helped a lot. It was easier for me to take out the seat to get to the cable. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 05-17-2010, 04:16 PM | #38 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | I'll use his pics as a reference when i get to it htis week. Maybe leave the throttle boddy end connected until you're ready to swap cables so you'll remember how it seats in the detent. The cable is held in the accelerator pedal with a rubber grommet. It pulls right out, might need a flathead screwdriver to pry it out. All you need to unclip the plastic guide from the firewall is a flathead screwdriver. I found that a stubby flathead was a little easier to handle in the tight space above the steering column. Start by depressing the top of the clip downward, the cable will tilt through the firewall, then depress the bottom of the clip upward and it'll push through the firewall. Steven and I found it easier to remove the driver's seat and lay on our backs, but it's not 100% necessary if you're small and flexible. If you do remove the seat, be sure to disconnect the battery before you unplug the SRS wires under the seat and only reconnect the battery after the SRS wires are plugged back in. Of course, if you have a factory radio, make sure you have the code before you disconnect the battery. You'll need to remove the dash underpanel. The knee buster panel is optional, I went ahead and removed it since it was only a couple screws and bolts, gave me a little more room to move around. There's a couple wires you'll need to unplug when you remove the underpanel, I think the door chime and legwell light. Oh and don't forget the screw for the OBD diagnostic port under the dash. For some reason it's connected to the underpanel, but it doesn't come out with the panel and you don't need to remove it, just remove the screw that connects it to the cardboard panel and you'll be set. The only thing that I remember being a little confusing was the orientaton of the plastic guide as it snaps into the firewall. If you look carefully at the pic where I'm holding the cable, you'll notice that the guide isn't symmetrical. It's either angled upward or downward slightly. When you remove your old cable, make special note of which way it's angled coming out of the firewall. Hope that helps, let us know if you run into any snags and we'll try to walk you through it. Best of luck. The ASC cable is located in the "Fuel Preparation" section listed under "Fuel Injection System" as is the throttle body and ASC Valve(secondary throttle body). To make matters worse, they even pictured the cable going from the ASC actuator to the throttle body(wrong part pictured), NOT the ASC valve(secondary throttle body) that it is supposed to attach to. The REAL throttle cable(accelerator cable) is actually listed under "Pedals" Last edited by cooljess76; 07-20-2011 at 09:08 PM. | | | 12-20-2017, 10:06 PM | #44 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2014 Location: California Posts: 215 | Its time for me to replace my throttle cable now too. I bought the kit from the dealer and they included metal spring clip. Weird thing is i dont see that part on any diagrams. Anyone know where it actually goes? I have a M3 cable to swap in to match the motor. I recall doing this one other time on I think a E36 Sedan and it wasn't difficult at all. Hope I didn't just Jinx myself... I'll snap a few pics.
