The LSD and a 100lbs in the trunk sure work well. Glad my 100 buck POS has the LSD __________________ No more ti. | | | 10-31-2011, 03:12 AM | #17 | Member Join Date: Aug 2011 Location: Long Beach CA Posts: 88 | I lived in in northern Alberta for a few years and the bi-weekly commute was 500 miles each way, year round. Winter driving was everything from -30C with freezing rain, 2ft deep drifts, black ice, you name it. Tires? Nokian ice radials; put them on in Nov. and take them off in May and never a problem driving the speed limit + | | | 10-31-2011, 04:21 AM | #18 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2011 Location: Philly Posts: 605 | -30C? Coolant warms up but nothing else in a car ever seems to. Tires actually seem to stick to the ice in that temp.. | | | 10-31-2011, 07:20 AM | #20 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Los Angeles, CA Posts: 1,464 | Quote: Originally Posted by urbanmisfit Tires? I drive a lot in the snow here in Cali (yes we get a **** ton of of snow btw) and the CHP makes people with 2WD vehicles put on chains even if they have snow tires on all 4........ __________________ '97 318ti Active; '05 330ci ZHP | | | 11-07-2011, 07:17 PM | #28 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2011 Location: Phx Posts: 196 | Seen this snow thread going, so figured I'd add on since I got my first snow driving in this weekend here in AZ. Headed up north for the sole purpose of getting in the snow and a few dirt roads. No problems at all. State highways were mostly plowed, maybe half inch in stretches. Dirt roads were similar as far as plowing, maybe an inch in some spots; mostly mud/slush. Left the unplowed roads for the Jeeps. Car was great and had a blast. I'm coming from a Jeep my whole life, so quite a different feel. Every hunter I shot by definitely looked cross-eyed as I came through. As I finished up my dirts and pulled back on the highway a WRX came in...he likely had an even better time. Don't have snow tires, in fact current tires are nothing special, but held fine. As far as chains, I'll play it by ear during ski season. I do have a set in a friend's garage just in case. | | | 11-07-2011, 11:52 PM | #29 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | I live in Vermont and I don't even own chains, if I don't need them I doubt any of you guys down south will | | | 11-08-2011, 12:07 AM | #30 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2011 Location: Phx Posts: 196 | Yeah, they would be just to get up the last 5 miles of our ski mountain, early enough before the plow and crowds hit it. Wouldn't use em any other time...and still may not need to on the mountain...just depends on the storm. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
