Default oil light

I have done a search for this question without any luck, so I thought I would throw this out for help.

Quick background:
98ti M44 purchased with known bad head gasket. I broken down the engine and had the head reworked before I reinstalled. Neither the head nor the block was in too bad of shape.

I decided to replace the filter housing gasket and bushings, my bad I didn’t have the correct o-ring for the bushing so I took a chance with only installing a new gasket. Again my bad!

I get the engine starting and idling nicely and no lights, or unexpected codes, but guess what is leaking a profusely, yes!

I order what I believe to be the correct parts broke down the driver side and replaced the bush with new seals and filter housing gasket.
Now I have an oil light on and the lifters sound loud. I checked the oil level, it is correct and I checked the plug on the filter housing as well. My gut tells me there is an oil pressure problem, not sure if the bushing is hanging up? I installed the bushing spring side facing into the filter housing, so I believe that is correct too.

I am thinking about installing a pressure gauge where the pressure switch is located in the housing, but that is almost as much work as breaking it back down. Any tricks to check the pressure on the top side of the engine or any suggestions.

Many thanks
Dave

You most likely installed the plastic tube with o-rings the wrong direction. It has a one way valve in it to keep oil in the block and if installed wrong no oil pressure past the filter housing since the valce is blocking the flow. Do not run the car anymore like this and get it fixed

Johnboy,
Thanks for the reply, I broke oil filter housing down this weekend and I could not believe my eyes. I installed the gasket 180 degrees off. Yes upside down, I only share this information to warn others of the side effect of improper installation.
I have the housing reinstalled (correctly) and the lifter noise is gone, I am a little concerned I may still have a small leak at the bushing location.
