Default CEL and Camshaft position sensor

I replaced the camshaft position sensor a few months ago with a brand-new quality sensor. Within the last few weeks, my 1997 318i's Check Engine Light (CEL) goes on and off intermittently, the code is always the same using my PEAKE tester, I get a 07 – 70 indicating camshaft position sensor. The car has 155,000 miles and I’ve owned it for one year. I do not notice a difference in operation or performance when the light goes on. My questions are:
1) What are the odds of the sensor being bad in such a short time?
2) Do the timing components (chain, tensioner, and guides) require replacement at a typical interval?
3) Am I missing something?

I am having similar problems just wondering if you ever figured out the problem? I am getting ready to replace my cam sensor.

Cool CEL research

After exhuastive research, I have come to the conclusion, after a long discussion with the technical staff at Bavarian, that the cause of my CEL being set by the camshaft poistion sensor must be the fault of the sensor itself.
I have purchased a new (quality) sensor, but have yet found time to install it.

Oddly,
I have notice that my CEL often goes on just after I've refueled, then if I remove the gas cap and reinstall it at 180 degrees the light goes off. I did buy a new gas cap, but have yet to change it.
