How do you pull an M44

I got an engine hoist at AutoZone but it only has one hook. I know of the front hoist eye but where do I hook into to get the rear of the engine out? What do I need besides the hoist? Give me as much info as you can please!! This is happening tomorrow.

an old seat belt works wonders. It will never rip. just make sure you tie it right. I always did my engine swaps at a shop/strip yard so seat belts were everywhere.

If i recall, there is a cast iron loop at the back of the engine. 12 o'clock position, where the head and block meet.

You should use a load leveler. It'll give you two hooks and the ability to adjust the load. I used one and it worked wonders, especially when the motors going back in. Also, the rear hoisting point is on the back of the block, right above the transmission bellhousing. You can't really see it, but it's a cast iron eyelet. You may be able to feel it. I took my m44 out with the tranny attached.

Thanks for the advice guys! I got it out with the trans. How do I disconnect the trans from the engine? It's got some odd bolts...

They're called inverse torx bolts. You should be able to buy a set of torx sockets at sears or perhaps your auto parts store. Don't try to use anything else or you'll more than likely strip them out. Once you get all of them out and the starter disconnected, don't forget the 10mm bolt on the passenger's side of the bellhousing. It goes in from the front, the opposite way all of the other bellhousing bolts go. It holds that metal gasket in place. Then, once all of that is done, you could separate the tranny. This might be kinda difficult and you might ask a friend to help stabilize the motor while you rock the tranny side to side and pull simultaneously. It has to slide back about an inch and a half before it comes off. Don't be affraid, it's not heavy. I would NOT recommend sticking anything between the engine and tranny to pry them apart as you risk damaging the tranny case and or engine block. If you do, make sure you're prying on the cast iron engine block and not on the aluminum oil pan.
