I personally wouldn't bother with putting anything more than 350 hp in the Ti chassis. I have a very strict formula in how I build my cars, I blend factors such a performance, safety, reliability, aftermarket support and a few other things to create a overall balanced vehicle. Notice I never said that I didn't like the overall idea of the LS1 swap I would just rather have it in a different chassis with a huge contact patch 305s all round: Maybe the OP isn't a troll but I'm sure that some of his statements are exaggerated. Here is my thoughts on the aforementioned swaps. 13BTT: Heavy, expensive to maintain and modify. Power potential 350 reliable HP. I know you can show me 650 hp versions but those engines lives are measured by hours and cost $30k to build including all the aux components to support it (fuel management, turbo upgrade, etc). Apex seals exit at the first sign of detonation and not many people really know how to build these engines anymore. SR20DET: A friend and I imported and installed these back in 2003 when I had a shop in Cali. Great little engine with awesome aftermarket support and low cost. The problem is the power potential is less than the S52 for overall cost. Dollar for dollar an S52 will cost much less and can make just as much power (if not more ) than the SR20det. Read 400 hp sr20det will cost you around 7k which you can do for around 5-6 with a S52. Stock for stock a S52 will beat the snot of a SR20det every day of the week. Blacktops with T28s @ 9 psi put down around 212 Hp and 209 ft/lbs Tq. | i see your point, but no Nissan motors for me. There are a few advantages to the 13btt. 1. smoother motion/less vibration 2. only 3 moving parts 3. more compact. 4. Adjustable HP through boost control. 5. unique....no matter what you say, the Wankel is a brilliant design. I ****ing hate the american idea of "performance" where people just constantly slam V8s into everything, thats what i mean by big and dumb, because it is, in fact big and dumb...powerful, but when it comes down to it, the LS1 is a relic pushrod engine that has no place in my life. When it comes HP per liter, the wankel is king. The s52 is a perfectly good motor, but i dont want v6. SR20det.....Nissan? no thanks. I'll stick with the jap company with the best racing pedigree...Mazda | | | 07-15-2011, 11:06 PM | #47 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | V8s big and dumb, s52 v6........HAHAHHAHAHHAHA, im done with this thread. Oddly enough, i found a bunch of material of the swap on the net in 0.18 seconds.... http://www.performancecar.co.nz/vide...ort-quad-rotor http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sourc...E39H9b9AEFeiyg __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 Last edited by Bluebimma; 07-15-2011 at 11:37 PM. | | | 07-15-2011, 11:13 PM | #48 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2007 Location: Monterey, CA Posts: 770 | S52 isn't a v6. I know plenty about these motors. it was a slip. it happens. when i think 6 cylinders i think V, you guys have been fairly useless save a few. I will be doing this soon. And it will be sweet. If you are just going to jump all over a little slip here and there, then **** off and discuss the practical applications of BMW cupholders with other purists. this car is my business. if it turns out to be crap, thats my problem, not yours. i started this thread to get some tips, not to get a lecture about how there are better options. and the LS1 IS DUMB....cant argue with the power, but who needs 350hp in a compact anyway? Pushrod piece of **** is better suited for a ****ing tractor. You should go back and watch the video I embedded starting @ 6:55. And FWIW, the ti in the vids I posted seems to be moving just fine. The owner is a member here and he even made a thread about his build. | | | 07-16-2011, 02:51 PM | #55 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | Sad that youd resort to calling people names, when no one has called you out of yours. I dont care which engine you put in your ti, or any other vehicle for that matter. If you know so much about these cars, engines, and rotaries, then what do you need tips on from the forum? Calling an engine big and dumb seems so petty, and somewhat ignorant considering that, even though its old technology, its still presented in brand new corvettes in a fashion that makes it one of the most power and agile engines in the world not to mention other high end businesses, IE ariel atom, aston martin, and range rover use these engines. The other engines that have been mentioned were alternatives to the rotary that could be swapped in as well as have background history of being swapped into an e36 chassis and could help you with "tips". You said the s52 in your friends car was not adequate for you, thats 240 out the box, and if its not "fast enough" for you, then youre obviously looking for more power, moreso around that 300-350 mark if not more, that you say is stupid in a ti. Not too sure of your goal, do you have one? Im no uppity dick, far from it. I bust my ass 6 days a week, am ASE certified in everthing except HVAC, have all three certifications for being a master alignment technician, and will be training with BMW soon. Ive been on this forum for over 5 years now, and have helped many others with DIYs, writeups, sending cheap or even free parts to help out, not to mention my phone number for direct help with issues, advice, or just to chat. Good luck with your project, and try not to call people out of their names, even if your butt-hurt, its just the internet anyways. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 Last edited by Bluebimma; 07-16-2011 at 02:54 PM. | | | 07-16-2011, 03:01 PM | #56 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2010 Location: Potomac Falls VA DMV Posts: 1,794 | Crashaddict, just cause someone proved you wrong or made you look like a fool, doesnt mean you have to call names. Oh and it's not the power of the s52 that I don't like, it's the delivery, it's just not to my liking. Also, this 13btt ported running an open exhaust and an intercooler will push 270whp easily. Here is my progress this far, mostly cosmetic as I have been waiting for a 13btt to pass a compression test. 1. Replaced headliner With a "Modena" tone 2. Replaced sport ti cloth seats with Modena vaders 3.removed rear seats, covered in carpet and mounted nitrous cradle I need a custom diff, engine cradle, brembos, coil overs, 17in 5 spokes ,m3 mirrors, custom eurotary badges, angel eyes, a lsb paint job and it's done....gon take a while, I'll upload pics as soon as something interesting happens Oh and I am doing slot of the work myself, just not dealing with the wires Last edited by Crashaddict; 10-17-2011 at 07:40 AM. | | | 11-28-2011, 06:59 PM | #59 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2011 Location: SoFla Posts: 482 | First fitment of the new engine went well, just going to weld the mounts 6 inches forward, cut and reinforce the control arm and brace the frame and it will be ready for a new driveshaft. M3 front bumper 4. Angel eye projector headlights 5.5 series front struts(not sure if they work, but we shall see)to support the added weight 6.m3 mirrors need to get rid of 1. stock diff 2. a set of offset e46 m3 wheels with brand new rear tires( i bought them on impulse before realizing the front spindles wont support the depth) 3. stock mirrors 4. stock engine 5. stock tranny 6.stock everything basically anybody have a set of used coilovers?
