Hi everyone; longtime reader, first time poster. Got my 318ti about a month ago. I was just wondering if it is possible to put the 8.5" wide DSII's on the rear of a 318ti without modifying the fenders. I have read a lot of conflicting reports about whether or not this would work, so I'd appreciate any advice that the community can offer me. Thanks a lot! | | | 06-29-2007, 06:40 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | Yes, they will fit. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 06-29-2007, 06:46 PM | #3 | Junior Member Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: Grand Rapids, MI Posts: 22 | Wow. Fast response. Thanks! What does the group generally tend to think of running a staggered setup on these cars? (7.5 in front 8.5 in rear). This is my first rear wheel drive car, so I'm just wondering what the pros and cons of such a setup are. Thanks again. | | | 06-29-2007, 06:50 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2004 Location: Muncie, Indiana Posts: 1,551 | The should fit. I have et 42 8.5 inch wide wheels and the fit fine at stock height. When I installed coil-overs I had to put on a 12mm spacer to clear the coils, but still no fender modifying at moderate lowering. Eventually, I lowerd the car more, and I put on wider tires. Only after all that did the fenders need to be modified. Staggered fit will only make the car understeer. Unless you really have a lot of power that requires those big wide rear tires. Unfortunately ti's do not have a problem of having a lot of power. | | | 06-29-2007, 06:58 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2004 Location: Muncie, Indiana Posts: 1,551 | Stock ride height - no fender modifications....I can't believe my car used to look like a 4x4 12mm spacers, lowered on coil-overs. Rolled fenders, lowered more, and wider tires 235/4017 So you can see it takes quite a bit before you have to modify the fenders. | | | 06-29-2007, 07:24 PM | #6 | Junior Member Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: Grand Rapids, MI Posts: 22 | Hawt. My car is Alaskan blue (I believe that's the name of the color) as well. Your car is pretty much what I'm aspiring to. Right now, I'm mostly just taking care of some neglected items on the car, but it'll be time for the fun stuff soon enough, so I'm just trying to plan a little ahead. | | | 06-29-2007, 09:34 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2005 Location: Fort Collins, CO Posts: 1,305 | Quote: Originally Posted by hipsterdufus Hawt. I have staggered DSIIs on my 318ti now and it is much more stable. I have enough power to get the back end to step out in most corners with 8s all around, but with the 8.5s in the rear its really nice and predictable. __________________ '99 Dinan M3 | | | 07-02-2007, 04:10 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2006 Location: Boston, MA Posts: 1,152 | I have both staggered and non-staggered sets of wheel for the ti. M3 8.5" will fit without any problem on the rear. It gives the ti a more aggressive stance with the wider wheels on the back. Enjoy your ti and this site! | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
