Try a new battery? How deep was the water?

This happened to one of my Dad's trucks in the summer (It went down a boat ramp into a River) and we had to replace the starter, drain the transmission, change all fluids, spark plugs, and a variety of other things that I can find out for you.

You may have hydrolocked the engine. Quit trying to start it, call your insurance and have it towed to the nearest BMW specialist (not the dealer.) Best case scenario, something got wet that shouldn't have and will dry out. Worst case? Time for an engine. That's one reason why they say never ever ever drive through water if you don't know how deep it is! Up to the lights is airbox level. Water is incompressible. If your motor sucked in a charge of water instead of air...

Cars = land, boats = water, planes = air.

Choose your vehicle accordingly.

I think he realizes that he made a mistake. I am sure we can all attest to mistakes, small or large. I am sure that chastising him does not help the situation. On that note, I wish I had an answer for you. I would piggy back on what someone mentioned about taking it to a BMW specialist.

Good Luck!

I know this is an old thread, but if this ever happens to anyone, don't try to start the car! Immediately pull your plugs and crank the engine over a few times to shoot the water out. Dry the airbox, intake and pugs out with a hair dryer and some rags, and then let the car sit for a day or two before firing it up. Sometimes you get lucky and could save it but unfortunately it's usually too late.

this just happened to me last night, a combination of lots of rain, poor drainage, and an almost complete lack of street lights down in alabama caused the unfortunate chain of events. It's been sitting in the gym parking lot about 3/4 of a mile from my place so i checked on it after work today and it's still there. I have pretty much no time to work on anything in the daytime down here so i'm just going to get aaa to tow it to a guy i trust on the other side of town.
