well today i went to my girlfriends lacrosse game. after the game i walk out to the parking lot, open the hatch to put my back pack in, and shut the hatch like normal.

only problem, the hatch wont shut. it shuts but it will not latch closed. ive tried everything i could think of. i pressed the latch in with screwdrivers trying to get it to latch, checked for anything that could have been keeping it from latching in the trunk area etc...but the latch just wont lock in place. does anyone have any idea what could cause this and how to fix it....and if i have to take it somewhere, about how much i could look at paying for this to be fixed...having a hatch that stays shut is pretty important.

YIKES!! don't slam the hatch anymore!
Same problem.. Its the "C" shaped catch located in the hatch. There's a little spring that apparently breaks and the "C" doesn't turn face open-down anymore, so when you slam the hatch, the catch bar on the bottom just rams the "C" into the mechanism even more.

The little bugger is riveted in there, so you cant really take apart the trunk mechanism with ease. The quick fix, is to get a pen or small phillips head, poke it in the little hole of the (now jammed) "C" shaped catch and shimmy it so the face is open and facing down. You should now be able to close your hatch. Let me know if you get it to work..

Good luck.

i get what you are saying, but thats not whats wrong...i checked out the latch and the thing is...its stuck open! so i shut it the hatch, but the latch doesnt go in the locked position if that makes any sense.

the hatch goes down all the way, but the c shaped catch doesnt shut so it doesnt hold the hatch shut.

Can you jiggle (move at all) the latch/ "C" catch? Or is it kind of jammed open and refuses to move? Can you see any type of action/play when you jiggle the trunk button while the hatch is open? Can you move the latch when the button is pushed in vs. Not pushed in? Could you post a pic of the troublesome catch??

the latch...ive examined it thouroughly...ive locked myself in the hatch and all to look at it and what not.

when you shut it, the c latch moves and acts like its going to hook around the metal stake thing, but it just doesnt say in the locked position. when the hatch is closed , and i push the button on the back to open it, nothing moves...its like the button has no effect on the latch.

so basically, it seems like the latch can move back and forth and everything, but it wont stay in the locked position to keep the hatch shut.

ill work on getting a picture of it asap...

i examined it even more with my pops...took the plastic stuff off around it an all. the button to open it seems to be working and everything...only problem is, the c latch doesnt snap in the closed position to keep the hatch down. i can push the c latch up and it moves and i can see some springs moving around on the inside, but it wont snap into the locked position, if you let go a spring just yanks it back to the open position...

we got it fixed. me and my dad took the plastic lining off and we were checking out the inside by the latch and everything...it looked like everything was doing good and it should work. my dad stuck his hand down there and felt something moving around...he pulled it out and it was a broken piece of plastic from the inside of the plsatic lining that was blocking the latch from locking. woo my pops is the man.
