Default Good afternoon All

I purchased a 1995 318ti with 112K miles. How do you determine whether it's an M or just series 3?

There is no "M" ti...
95 ti's came in 4 configurations;
Base
Active
Sport
ClubSport

All have the same motor, a 4cyl M42 engine. I suspect someone added an ///M badge to your hatch.

'95 ClubSports and '96 and later Sports came with Mtechnic moldings, bumpers and suspension. If your car is Hellrot or SchwarzII, has red/black cloth/leather seats, manual transmission, 16" 5 spoke wheels, LSD, Mtechnic front and rear bumpers, Mtechnic side moldings and mirrors and sport tuned suspension, then it's a ClubSport. Clubsports were only made in '95 and they came with the options listed above. '96 and later sport models came with the same options, minus the mirrors and LSD. They also came with more interior/exterior color options and were available in automatic.

To help determine what package you have, there are some things to look for...

What color is the car?
What is your interior like? All cloth, half cloth - half leather?

Does your car have M-style mirrors, wide, flat side moldings and an M-style front bumper?

Yes that describes this car exactly..I picked it up in LA for 2K..Brand new Yoko tires, Pioneer CD/radio/IPOD port. Runs great, but it does get hot...to solve that I simply turn the fan on...I know I will have to address this. Thank you for your knowledge and info..greatly appreciated.

IIRC Active models weren't available in '95. You can easily spot an Active model if it has a multifunction clock(OBC). The only other option for '95 would base or sport model. A '95 sport model will have sport seats(two tone cloth/leather), sport suspension, 16"wheels, painted sideskirts and standard base model bumpers, moldings and mirrors. So if it's not a ClubSport or a Sport, then it's a base. Again, I don't think Active models were available in '95.

You probably need to bleed the cooling system or have some other cooling system issue. Don't drive it like that or you'll be replacing the motor very soon.

My 95 is an Active package that has been facelifted to resemble a clubsport (except the seats)

You can upload them in your Photo Gallery(link under your username) or you can post them directly in this thread as an attachment if you click the "Go Advanced" button or you can use a 3rd party image host such as photobucket or imageshack.
