Exclamation M50 swap problems

Sorry if this has been asked before, I searched and didn't really find an answer

I'm currently in the middle of swapping an M50 from a 94 325i into my 95 318i.
So far the swap has been pretty straight forward, I have the motor in and I'm currently just doing the cooling system and the electrics. But I ran into a slight problem and I can't seem to find answers anywhere...

I'm using the m50 wiring harness, and DME , so I shouldn't have a problem with that. But I put everything in and there is 3 connectors/plugs left and I can't find where they go. I went to down to the doner car (the 325i) and sure enough, those wires are wired into the fuse box, and as far as I could see you really can't swap the fuse box (?), plus, out of all the swap threads I have seen I have never heard of anyone doing that, I could be wrong though.

Here is a picture of the connections and plugs that I'm talking about.

So, what are those connections for? Am I going to have to get the fuse box out of the other car?
Oh yeah, the m50 was originally mated to an automatic transmission, I don't know if that matters. But the PO of the m50 did a manual trans swap.

Thanks for any help

It turns out two of the plugs are for the ACS, which I really don't care about. But the other one is apparently a TPS(throttle potion sensor), which for some reason isn't a part of the engine harness, but is part of the body harness(on the doner car).

I ran into another problem though... I go to start it and, well it won't start.
It turns out that I'm not getting spark. Does this sound like EWS? The body is a 95, and the engine/harness/dme is a 94. It also has the 413 DME which I remember reading somewhere that there isn't any EWS in those.

Time to do some researching

After doing some research, I came to the conclusion that it isnt EWS.
Apparently when EWS is engaged the starter is disabled, and my starter is working. Although I'm not sure if its working properly.
I checked all my grounds, and I have the CEL on the dash, still no go.

I recommend J!M's book, I hear its the best for swaps and he will help you along the way also. Personally I have not bought it because the shop that is performing my swap has done a few already.

Well I checked the fuel and spark again this morning... I was getting fuel from the fuel pump, but the injectors were dry as can be, that and the fact that I wasn't getting spark lead me to believe it was the EWS.

I just went out a few minutes ago and cut the EWS wire, and I'm now getting spark, and fuel to the cylinders.
There is just so much different information out there about the EWS. Some say it disables the starter, some say it doesn't, etc etc.

Although my stater is clearly shot. The minute the engine goes to turn over and start, the starter slips and gives out.
Good thing I have an extra starter laying around

Here's an update. I went out this morning to check for spark and fuel again. I was getting fuel from the fuel, but the plugs were as dry as can be, nor were they getting any spark. Which led me to the EWS. So I cut the EWS wire, and now I'm getting plenty of fuel and spark. The only problem now is my starter is clearly shot. Right when the motor is about to turn over and actually start, the starter slips and gives out. So thats tomorrows project.

Now I only have one other problem...
There is no connection for the TPS on the engine harness. I went back down to the donor car, and the TPS connection is part of the chassis harness, which as far as I know, is impossible to get.
I still have the harness of my m42, with the TPS connection.
My question is, is it possible to wire in the TPS plug from my old harness into the new one? Or am I pretty much screwed here?

A couple years ago I wrecked my 93 318 with only 40k miles. I found a shell for a 95 318i and swapped the motor from my 93 into the 95, and the swap went easy. Fast forward to this August, my m42 pretty much stopped running. My friend convinently totaled his 325, so I just snatched his engine with a BavAuto chip, and a UUC lightweight flywheel and m3 clutch, but it seems like his engine is different then every other 325 out there.

I thought you needed the cluster and the associated wiring harness as well, which is not the whole under dash harness, but includes the wire your after.... Looks like a research job with the wiring diagram...

THe TPS shouldn't be part of the chassis harness. On mine the tps was part of the DME ecu harness.

If I was you, I would use an ohm meter and basically test all your 3 wire connectors under the intake manifold to the spots on the DME plug. Look in the manual and find what wires go to the DME for TPS then set the ohm meter to the beep mode, touch both leads on the ohm meter together and if it beeps begin with my instructions.

It's possible you plugged the clip for TPS into the idle air control solenoid instead... BMW uses alot of the same connectors and it's easy to mix them up.

You will figure it out!! You're soo close. If I was you, I would also check all your other sensor plugs with the manual.

Here's a snip from the service manual:

Everything associated with the engine sensors is on the engine harness, not the chassis.

WAIT a minute, you have the ASC throttle body, okay...

Check this:

You might have some wiring switch around... also you need the MAF from the 94 m50, and it needs to be hooked up and have no leaks between it, and the throttle body.

IMO i would get a non ASC throttle body, it's pointless to have on there...

Remove asc completely, you don't have the proper wiring on the chassis

Well, I got it started!
Deleted the EWS, replaced the starter, and it started right up and runs great
My friend actually got a video of the first start up, I'll post up a link once he gets it on youtube, its actually pretty funny

Thanks a lot to everyone in this thread!

You sir, are a life saver haha. I can't believe I didn't notice the sensor right there.

You're welcome, I feel good that I was able to help ya! Have fun, first startup videos are always a charm... my first good startup wasn't caught on tape, and I wish I had a POV of my first pull to 6500rpm at 11psi, ear to ear smiles.
