Recently acquired a 330ti from a good friend Wayne and I'm slowly in the process of getting it to DD condition. Engine mods: 98k S50B30, TMS Stage 3 (schrick cams, injectors, chip, intake), headers, and Eisenmann catback. Probably more... Currently I am experiencing a RPM bounce when I'm coasting to a stop. The idle will dip low then bounce back up and level out when I've reached a complete stop. My old M44 used to behave this way when it had a dirty ICV, but I know that aftermarket cams can cause a rough idle at times. I don't know about the bounce though. There is no CEL, but the car is due for new plugs and an oil change for sure. The engine has 98k on it, and runs very strong, it just runs kinda rough I guess. | | | 12-18-2010, 04:01 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: Mt. Also camshaft position sensor if it is not cured... make sure to do the spark plugs when the car is cold.. aluminum block can expand when hot and you dont really wanna change plugs then even though last time i did it when it was pretty warm.. sooo. good luck let us know how it goes.. possibly new spark plug wires as a last resort. __________________ Intake, Sony mp3/cd player, remus cat-back exhaust, | | | 12-18-2010, 04:45 AM | #3 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | thanks dude | | | 12-18-2010, 06:03 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | Ced; Congrats on the new ti! First question is does the car have a LTW flywheel? I have the Fidanza 12lb flywheel and I get some idle flucuation when the engine revs drop down to under 1k. It's normal if the car has a ltw flywheel, the DME is compensating for the lower rotational mass... __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. Does it have a lightened flywheel and does the idle problem occur every time? I would also check for vacuum leaks or you could just drive it down to South Carolina and I'll get it all sorted for you. How does it compare to your car. That exhaust I sold you was made for these mods!! | | | 12-18-2010, 11:43 PM | #6 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | Wayne told me this never happened to him so it could be something that just stated happening. I'll get pics up soon, if anyone knew Gary from a couple years ago this used to be his (roll bar, brembos, recaros, ect...) Sometimes I had to give it some gas to keep it from stalling when first starting up but otherwise I never had problems with the rpm's dropping. Idle was a bit rough but I figured that's the solid aluminum mounts and the shrick cams. I think I put 400 miles on it in 5 months though so it didn't see much road time. Pretty sure this ti has a ltw flywheel but I don't know the weight. It revs a good bit faster than my S52 M3 does. ...and yes.. once you get past 4500 rpm this ti is ":0 :0:0" Last edited by Isis07; 12-19-2010 at 12:23 AM. | | | 12-19-2010, 12:38 AM | #9 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | Quote: Originally Posted by 318_mzk2 Is this the black one I've see. The rough idle is probably cuz of the cams.. __________________ 318ti MZK2 | | | 12-19-2010, 12:57 AM | #11 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | Haha come on down from NJ we should hang. My m50 does the same crap specialy when it's cold. It idles stupid .. Idk if the cams would make the idle bounce/drop .. I know they will increase idle... But check the icv. And maybe a vacuum leak somewhere __________________ 318ti MZK2 | | | 12-19-2010, 02:16 AM | #14 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | Let me know if you need any help man. random question, you going to sell your rims anytime soon? | | | 12-19-2010, 02:18 AM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2009 Location: nj Posts: 1,099 | Quote: Originally Posted by BMW_Hatchback Let me know if you need any help man. random question, you going to sell your rims anytime soon? | thanks bro i might take you up on that.. which ones? __________________ 318ti MZK2 | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Thread Tools | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | Similar Threads | Thread | Thread Starter | Forum | Replies | Last Post | [330ti: Project Clubsport] | BMW_Hatchback | Engine Swaps | 5 | 03-05-2011 11:59 PM | project clubsport | mischief | Lounge | 14 | 05-09-2006 11:24 PM | 330ti | jrobb | Engine Swaps | 12 | 11-10-2005 04:16 AM | 330ti | jrobb | Engine Swaps | 0 | 10-13-2005 04:14 PM | 330ti | jrobb | Engine Swaps | 0 | 01-13-2005 03:01 PM | |
