Just this morning I started up my 1996 318ti (5 speed). I put it in first gear and started to take off, then at about 1,200 rpms, the car started to jerk violently like I was hitting a rev limiter. Then my Check Engine Light came on....and the little traction light in the dash flashed a few times. The traction light goes out, but the CEL stays on...and the car is basically undriveable. Anyone had this problem or got any ideas? Also...don't know if this is related...but I just had my oil changed yesterday morning. I'd appreciate any help. Otherwise we might as well pull guesses out of our butt. I disconnected/reconnected my battery, but the problem did not go away. | | | 05-13-2005, 05:15 AM | #6 | Junior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Salt Lake City Posts: 17 | Got the codes read: 0325 (Knock sensor 1) - 0330 (Knock sensor 2) - 0335 Crankshaft Position Sensor. So are the knock sensors a job that requires pulling the intake manifold? How about the crank position sensor? | | | 05-13-2005, 05:54 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2004 Location: Northern New Jersey Posts: 395 | Mine did this basically, it jerked seriously violently as soon as my foot touched the gas, and i couldnt imagine what it was. I figured out that it was the intake boot that's connected to the throttle body. When i squeezed it, my finger actually went inside. It was cracked all over the place, so i took it off, and temporarily wrapped it with a lot of duct tape. Then i went to BMW and got a new boot for like 30 bucks. Works like a charm now. So check all of your hoses THOROUGLLY, i know i checked mine, but only when i actually squeezed it did it fall apart. | | | 06-01-2005, 05:24 AM | #8 | Junior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Salt Lake City Posts: 17 | Ok...got the Crank Position Sensor replaced and all is well. The mechanic told me the CPS likely tripped the codes for the knock sensors and they wouldn't need to be replaced. He was right. | | | 06-02-2005, 02:51 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Brecksville/Cleveland Ohio Posts: 259 | Glad to here it.
