Center Armrest with Cupholders
Mod performed and written up by Stephen W. FLBEARCUB@aol.com
The armrest kit comes with almost everything you need to install. The one thing that is missing is the rear ashtray and ashtray insert. Otherwise you have a small storage place behind the armrest. When you install the armrest, you replace the center console (not the shifter console) with the one provided in the kit. Everything is explained in the instructions and all necessary holes in the floor of the car are already present, no drilling required. The factory kit doesn't have provisions for cupholders. This means you can basically throw away the cupholder that you take out or do what I did. The new console has a couple of storage places. A 3x3 one in the front and a 2 level one just under the lowered armrest. I took my discarded cupholder and cut off the storage section just behind the rear cupholder hole. It's a very tight fit when you install the modified cupholder. So it will be necessary to shave a little of the inside storage bin (it's covered by the cupholder) and little of the underneath sides of one cupholder. Once completed you can actually have a can of soda in the cupholder and have the armrest down. You also retain the coinholder which you can just remove the coins without having to raise the armrest. I think the attached picture will make it a little cleaner on the modification.
