I think I used 10w-30 before the 0w-30. | | | 08-20-2005, 12:30 AM | #17 | Junior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Central Florida Posts: 10 | Amsoil 20w50. After all the engines I've built and rebuilt over the years, I won't waste my time or money on anything else. ...well, except at the initial 15min of break in. They get the cheapest crap I can buy from Auto Zone for that. After the post 15min oil change they get "decent" conventional. Then Syn after 3,000 miles. ---Chris __________________ 1996 BMW 318ti- Green / Grey Cloth, 94K miles all stock | | | 09-25-2005, 10:59 PM | #18 | Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Iowa Posts: 54 | i use 10w30 valvoline syntec synthetic. Great weight for all year around in Iowa. i dont really notice a difference from fossil, but i just got the car a few months ago and i decided to get on the long maintenance program (10k mile changes) and you need synthetic for that, so... temp here varies a lot -30 fahrneit in winter to 100 fahrneit in summer. | | | 11-01-2005, 09:46 PM | #19 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: Mt. If you have the dealer change the oil to synthetic they put the decal on by the info sticker. I switched my 95 to synthetic 15W40 (Thats what BMW uses stock in the M42/M44 line) and so far so good. It definatley got quieter but thats pretty normal when I've put fresh oil in any engine. Does this sound right to you guys? I live in Charleston, SC and it gets down to the 30's at night in the winter but up to the 100's in the summers. | | | 12-08-2005, 03:51 AM | #23 | Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: in the puddle... The only reason I would see in using a 5w30 or thinner is to have the engine running smoother in winter. After about 2 weeks of owning my car, I checked the oil one night and I was just at the bottom, so I decided to get 15w40 MotoMaster Synthetic oil and so far so good! | | | 05-23-2006, 08:18 AM | #28 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2005 Location: Portland Oregon Posts: 1,363 | The weater is like always the same here so i use 5W20 | | | 06-26-2006, 09:08 PM | #29 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Puerto Rico Posts: 885 | Amsoil or Valvoline syn. 10-40, i live in Puerto Rico... veeeeryyy hot al year, 85 cooldest, over 100 in summer,,, o love the beach,, jejej and bikinis __________________ BMW...MY NEW TOY Mods: Some plastic parts, ///M Wheels and me | | | 06-27-2006, 02:32 PM | #30 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | I use Lubro Moly Voll-Synthese Motor Oil - Synthetic - 0W40 from Bavauto because thats all the car has run for its whole life (says the previous owner). __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Thread Tools | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
