Try a salvage yard or a BMW dealership. Check ebay.

It depends which way the MAF is broken. The likely condition is that the mixture will be rich. Not terrible, but you want to fix that in the long run to prevent deposits.

The bad news is that it could run lean. Lean = BOOM. As long as you're not throwing a CEL, you're probably okay.

If you run without a MAF, you default to the air/fuel tables, which is like a safe mode (kinda). It's possible to run with no MAF if you have awesome tables, the factory tables are safe (not a lot of ignition, lots of fuel). Running lean isn't likely. That being said, I'd NEVER drive without one.

Running long term without a MAF will damage the catalytic converter, because it tends to run rich. I recently found a MAF for my 535 from a VW place in the States -

If you call them you can check the Bosch part number of the hotwire sensor itself. It may well be the same as the one one your car. You'll have to take the sensor out of the stock VW tube and fit it to the air tube from your BMW, but that's really easy, took me 5 minutes, and I'm the pits at DIY. Just make sure the Bosch part numbers match - on the sensor itself, not on the airtube.
