Default Check Engine

My check engine light came on again for about four days and them shut off. This has happened at least two times since October 05, maybe three times. If I went some where to have the fault codes read will the computer give me the error codes that were causing the check engine light come on or does the check engine light need to be on when you have the codes read? I hope this makes sense.

What year is your car? 1995 you can check them yourself.
Some auto parts places will let you borrow the tool.
The codes are stored for some period of time.

Fault code 28 from chart 07 came up on the code reader. code 28 is catalyst efficiency. Does this mean it's time for a new catalytic converter?

Your best bet it to reset the light and wait to see if it comes back on. If it does, you should replace the cat.

Not unless the supersprint racing resonator is actually a cat.

I don't think it is a cat, I'm pretty sure it is a straight through design.

product description:
Supersprint Race Resonator / Cat Replacement
All Supersprint resonators are of the flow through resonated design. This means each unit has no chambers or baffles to reduce velocity. Simply, a straight through in & out design! The internal components are 100% stainless steel with a high heat resistant rock wool sound suppressing material, not found in any other systems. This is the reason we can offer you sound legal performance exhaust systems. Tubing is always mandrel bent for maximum flow. Flanges and hangers are O.E. or better quality for a perfect fit every time. Housings are all manufactured from 1.5mm material that is M.I.G. welded at all seams. The stainless systems are 100% 304 stainless, the mild steel systems are aluminized on the inside and out, then black heat coated for corrosion prevention.

_End

Ill reset the light and see if it comes back on. Only time will tell.

Where's the cheapest place to get a catalytic converter?

My check engine light came back on so I think its time to change the catalytic converter.

Could the fact that the cat is not functioning properly cause my car to hesitate a little while accelerating? No other error codes are being displayed. I hope if I replace the cat it will fix the hesitation peoblem as well. Any thoughts?

Who knows where to get the best priced for a good OEM quality replacement catalytic converter?

What year is your car, and what is the mileage?

There was a recall on cats on 98s, available until 100k miles.

I called up this muffler shop to see how much they charge for a new cat. I explained my situation to them and the guy said possibly the o2 sensor is causing the catalyist efficience code 28 from chart 7 to light up the check engine light. So now he has me thinking it might be the o2 sensors. The o2 sensors displays a totally diferent code correct?
