Default Window question

Did not really know were to put this but here goes.

Well last night I put in a new window regulator and clips. When everything was installed my window was having trouble going up and would not go up straight. Came across this picture on the pelican website how-to section and realized that I did not see this particular piece.

I'm going to take a wild stab and guess that the piece that is above the arrow is needed.

The guy I bought my car from tried to fix the window issue but did not finish, from what I gather I am guess he did not install everything that he took apart

I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this issue, I believe the stopper looking things are missing on both of the rails that the clips slide back and forth on, do the stoppers go on both sides of the rail as well? Also does anyone know were I could find these pieces or should I just see if someone can part one out for me?

Thank you for any help, this is the first time I have worked on the window for my bimmer so I am not totally sure what is normal and what is not.

I don't think that is on our windows. It looks like it's on the end of the slider track and our sliders just slide right out. There's nothing preventing them from sliding out if the window tilts.

So there are not stoppers at all then. hmm I guess it is just a matter of playing with it until I can get it set straight then? Thank you for quick reply

Sounds like the regulator arms and vertical tracks need to be straightened. Also, if you haven't already done so, remove the old grease and replace with fresh grease. Clean the felt-lined vertical guides with a rag or an air blower too. This might be helpful:

I looked through the thread but I more or less skimmed through it and thought I could just kinda do it my own and when it was not working I went looking for pictures and that is what I found, I forgot that there is a diffrence between coupe and sedan. Ill look at it in more detail when i get home.

Thanks

There is a metal guide that runs on the inside of the door, below the door lock button. There are a couple of spot welds that often break, causing the guide to fall into the bottom of the door, which makes the regulator arms bend and fail. You might want to check if that guide is still there - it's not an expensive part ($20 maybe), but is necessary.

I've messed with my window regulator for countless hours. Its very frustrating work. Best done with 2 people. I donít recognize that clip/stop but that doesnít mean its not there. When my window kept falling forward it was because the ball socket kept popping out of the white clip. I had bent my regulator rolling my window down to pay a F_ckin toll while my window was frozen shut. Iím not sure why your window is not going up straight but make sure that the rails are well greased, that the window is in both the front and rear sliders, that the regulator is not bent and that the clips are not broken. Best of luck.

well I found out what the problem was the other day when my neighbor came over to help me out a bit. I guess the regulator that I was sent was faulty, the rivets in the middle that hold the arms together were loose and one of the arms had some play in it, I guess enough play that it would drop the forward side of the window down and prevent it from going up striaght. I'm in the process now of returning it.

Thanks for all the help!
