Default Bummed, need a driveshaft

I've had a clunk in the rear for sometime.
The shop didn't see anything unusual but suspect it could be motor mounts.
Had BW mounts installed. Still clunks but the shop did say my old mounts were squished down.

Then they think it's a center load bearing. OK.
They order a center load bearing.
Pull the driveshaft and note that the U-joints are shot!
Excessive slap. Could be my clunk, maybe not.

Anyway, now I am getting a remanufactured driveshaft.

I just have to tell myself, the car owes me nothing!
I'm glad the shop saw this problem since this sounds like a major safety concern.

Yeah nothing's worse than that "highway pole vault" exercise.

stuff needs to be replaced eventually, you are lucky they caught it before it failed completely

if it's any consolation I'm a little bummed too, the 1990 325ix 5 spd. I was considering buying turned out to be a rust bucket

Fuel pump and repair of my bumper due to a tow a few months ago.
Struts and springs last year.

Now motor mounts and drive shaft.

POS car. It only has 237,000 miles. It's hardly broken in.

Too bad you have to replace a whole dirveshaft for a $30.00 U-joint. I looked on Pelican because I was curious what one of these would cost new and I just about fell out of my chair when I saw the $839.25 price tag!!

I don't see where the U-joint is a separate part. From all the images, it looks like it is part of the drive shaft.

What BMW lists as a U-joint is what everyone else calls the flex disc or guibo.

No man, you got me all wrong here. I'm saying that the universal joint that bolts to the differential can't cost more than like $30 bucks to make. BMW for some reason doesn't offer this part separately so your are stuck buying a $800.00 drive shaft. That sucks dude!

318ti driveshaft, complete unit. If you have a m52 swap I assume you use the front 328 piece and the rear 318ti section..? Correct??

I didn't do the swap, but I'm pretty sure they used a 328 driveshaft. Flanges where swapped for the diff which is for an E30.
