This is my FIRST attempt at such a daunting task. Keep in mind that I'm only somewhat a weekend mechanic (oil changes, suspension, starters....ect.) I have been putting this off for some time now, mainly because I've been scared to start this. I know I'm doing this to a rare clubsport but oh well, it needs more power!! Now that the weather is getting a bit warmer and I'm tired of not having garage space, here we go. My 1999 S52 is coming from my e30 cabrio. It is already setup as OBDI. I will be replacing the harness and oil pan. The harness is really ugly and I just don't trust it. I plan on scraping the e30 because of rust issues. So my first task is to take it apart and sell whatever I can. I have already sold the suspension, 3.73lsd diff (should have kept it), trailing arms, bits and pieces of interior. I am really proud of myself with what I accomplished today so far. I removed the engine harness (I have NO IDEA where everything will get plugged back in), Intake manifold, exhaust, and I'm currently working on the drive shaft (lunch break). Let me know what you guys think and please comment if you see that I'm doing something wrong. Here are a few pics.... I hope I know where everything goes back..... __________________ Last edited by Platanos; 02-21-2011 at 07:37 PM. | | | 02-21-2011, 08:16 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2010 Location: Potomac Falls VA DMV Posts: 1,794 | Quote: Originally Posted by Platanos Hello brothers and sisters!! Now I have to wait for my neighbor to get home from work so I can use his hoist. I think the motor is ready to be pulled. I disconnected the shifter linkage, drive shaft, not sure what else need apart for the motor to come out....oh I guess I better do the radiator. __________________ | | | 02-21-2011, 08:33 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: PA Posts: 1,906 | Quote: Originally Posted by 318_mzk2 so it has officialy begun... whats up w the e30 is it really bad? | e30 isn't that bad at all, I'm just tired of it. With the motor out, I'd do the oil pan, valve cover, t-stat housing and replace with metal (if it isn't), and check the coolant stuff in the rear of the motor if it's got it. The one thing that jumps out at me, if you can, put the intake manifold on before you put the motor into the TI. When I did my head the intake mani was literally the worst part of it, I couldn't get my hands/any tools on the back couple nuts, and it took me forever. Pretty sure I'm still missing one of the rearmost ones too __________________ 1995 318TI base. 95 2.5L from 325IS. S50 cams+pistons, e36 M3 front brakes. H&R race springs F+R. I remember I had the harness loose as well as the air intake thing, but just couldn't get to it. Owell, hasn't cause a problem. Makes sense it's easier w/out the mani though, less risk of breaking something+more room. __________________ 1995 318TI base. 95 2.5L from 325IS. S50 cams+pistons, e36 M3 front brakes. I haven't even thought about how to drop the motor in the ti. It wasn't too horrible taking the mani off in the e30. But I can see where that last bolt in the mani might be troublesome. I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get there. I was hoping to have the motor out last night but my neighbor lent his hoist out. Doesn't know when he'll get it back. I guess I gotta by a freaking hoist....and a stand. __________________ | | | 02-23-2011, 03:04 AM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2007 Location: Rocky Hill, CT Posts: 1,065 | Dunno where in PA you are, but I have a stand and hoist you could borrow in 08736 (near Seaside/Point Pleasant). Free of course, dad would probably just want some kind of deposit. They're already apart for storage, so easy to pack up and move around __________________ 1995 318TI base. 95 2.5L from 325IS.
