We stopped at a light to make a turn, and I looked to my left. The car looked familiar, the wheel emblems were VW, but the lines just didn't look like the new Passat. As the car moved forward, I read the trunk, and it said Phaeton. Wow, my first siting. Wasn't sure if it was the 4.2L or the 6.0L engine. Any idea what this car cost? Found this on Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VW_Phaeton Interesting timelines on all VW models. __________________ 1998 (July) 318ti, 5-spd OEM Armrest Blaupunkt Heidelberg CD50 CD Player/Compact Drive MP3 Player Diamond Audio 5.25" rear speakers Navman ICN 530 GPS BMWALARM.COM (with comfort settings) after market alarm system Magnecor 8.5mm wires M-Z3 Shifter/Momo Knob Burlwood Dashboard Stromung Exhaust X-brace Racing Dynamics Front Strut Bar Carbonio C.A.I. 17" Rial Rims Vader Seats/Heated/Lumbar Support M-tech Steering Wheel/Front Sway Bar/Front & Rear Bumper Depos/w 6500K Angel Eyes/6000K HIDs Clear Corners M3 Mirrors UUC Light Weight Flywheel/M5 Clutch/M3 Clutch Slave E28 3.46 LSD/Mcoupe Cover/E30 Flanges & Halfshafts UUC S.S. Nowadays. I don't think they make it anymore... Marketing flop. Very high quality car, but with a name like VW, it never got the chance to compete against MB, BMW, etc. __________________ Mark *1995 BMW 318ti ACTIVE (with Bilstein HD's and Mtechnics) *1991 PORSCHE 964 Targa (with '97 993 VRAM engine & 6 spd tranny) | | | 02-05-2007, 08:47 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Pittsburgh, PA Posts: 1,224 | I don't think it was a marketing flop per se. It was an experiment by VW to see if they could successfully enter the high end luxury market under their own name after buying Rolls-Royce and Bentley. | | | 02-05-2007, 10:10 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Marin County & Santa Cruz Posts: 116 | Its only your first siting? They been around for damn near 4 YEARS! I see em all over the place...but maybe thats cuz I live in the 3rd richest county in the world. They have crazy strict tech. tests that each car has to live up to. I saw some of the older ones going for around 38K. No 6.0 though... __________________ My next car will be a 335D...I swear | | | 02-05-2007, 10:43 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: Manassas, VA Posts: 4,129 | My brother has the new Bentley with the twin turnbo V12. Now I see why it had the VW engine. Would have sold a LOT better. People are not about to fork over that kind of cash for a car from the company that made the Bug | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
