+1 For 17's, theyre more practical when it comes to the performance of our cars in stock and slightly modified applications.

Thanks for all of your input. I finally got a set of used 17" for $200 locally through a classified ad on craigslist.org
Plan to buy 225/45R17 Yokohama AVS ES100 front and rear from tirerack.com selling for $110 each.

Glad you went with 17's, sounds like you got a great deal on them. Clean those babies up and lower your car to close the gap. I paid $175 for my style 42's but I had to restore them since they were pretty chewed up. Staggered wheels suck BTW. They are a PITA when it comes to rotating and actually lower performance.

Does anybody have any comments or close up pics for comparing the difference between tire sizes 225/45/17 and 235/40/17?

i run 18" on 225 40´s and a 40mm on the back,.. no rubbing issues at all

ive seen 19"s on a compact too, 323i with vented discs, the wheels dont fit in 19" on a 4 cyl (not the ones we have , Hartge Classic splits)
