How much power does the ls make versus an m3 conversion? Also... can you link us to a sound clip of the car(both front, and rear)? Video clips are even better.

It is a bit of a squeeze but the LS1 fits very nicely without any real modifications to the structure. The toughest part was coming up with headers that fit around the steering shaft and ya it is insane!! I have to get some better tires cause it just smokes them all through first and second gear

I have a video clip of the motor running but it is 19 megs long so it takes forever to load. I will repost it on my site and put a link to it later today.

Also the LS1 in stock form makes about 375 hp with headers and a few bolt ons. In my first car (318IS) it ran a 12.7 @ 113 mph. With the new motor being around 500hp and in the lighter TI I should be in the mid 11s if I can get any traction. Can't wait to get to the track!

Hartge does the 5.0 in the e36 so the 4.0 should be easier,

the 4.0 is an alloy block also isn't it?

Actually, I believe they put the 5.0 in the e46. It was a cover article from a BMW car a few months back.

Hmmm...fun thread. I've done a few Chevy 350 into Volvo wagon swaps. They're fun "sleeper" cars. I have to say, I'd hate tearing up my ti to put a small block in it (I've got an L98 TPI 350 and an HO Ford 5.0 hanging on stands in my garage waiting for a fun project, though). It's so much fun the way it is...I guess if the engine ever went south, I'd consider it. Cheaper than an S52 swap but I have to agree that making the systems work with each other would be a nightmare...functional check engine light and scanner interfaces would be nice, A/C is a must, ABS would be nice on a car so front heavy, EFI is a must (that LS1 swap looks really well executed and with the g's encountered in drifting, do you really think a QuadraJunk carbureted 305 or 350 is going to be sufficient...I'd be worried about fuel starvation under lateral forces) etc. I'm curious about shifter positioning if using, say, a Borg Warner T-5.
Well, power addicts, I wish you all the best. I'll still be changing my oil regularly and hoping the wheezing little M44 holds on for a good long time.
As far as Chevys vs Fords vs BMWs...it's all familiarity. I've been through 'em all. Chevy powered this, Ford sucks. Ford powered this, Chevy's okay but this is cool. BMW powered this, aluminum V8's rock, Ford and Chevy are still cool. Overall, if I did a V8 ti, it would probably be a 4.0 or 4.4 BMW alloy V8 with aftermarket programmable EFI. A swap is a swap...it will never appeal to everyone. Do what you like and fits your budget/purpose. Have fun, learn something, and pass on the info for those of us that can appreciate any big engine in a little car.
Thanks again for the thread.

This is a link to the page with the motor running. When I tried to open it I got the Quicktime broken film strip so I'm not sure this is working but you can try. This file is long and the quality is crap.
