I'm the 3rd owner of myh 99 318ti M Sport.. and I need to get new shock absorbers.. I used realoem.com to locate the part# that I need, but when I was talking to my husband last night about it, he pointed out I may have ordered the wrong ones. Now I don't know if my car has the M Sport Suspension cause I've read (in this forum of course) that the M Sport package may be different than actually having an M Sport Suspension. Yesterday I ordered Part#33521091629 from Pelican Parts ( Boge Sport Rear Shock, 318ti (1995-99), $95 Each). Then I went back to realoem.com (after I had already ordered the above part#) and realized that right below the 'standard' shock absorber was this note: " For vehicles with M Sports suspension" use Part#33521091630 (Genuine BMW Part: SHOCK ABSORBER) which is $70 per shock (ouch! ). What I'm wondering is, will there be an issue if I install the Boge Shocks over the BMW ones? Again, I'm not sure if my ti has the M Sport Suspension, how do I find out by the way? Thanks so much __________________ *CrYsTaL* I L.O.V.E. my Bimmer!!! | | | 10-13-2009, 04:54 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Minneapolis Posts: 1,587 | Your car does have the "M Sport Suspension" if you have the Sport package, which it looks like you do. It's included with the sports package. 33521091630 is the part number you want, the one lableled as "M Sport Suspension". Pelican Parts lists the standard shock, 33521091629 as a "Sport" shock, which I believe is incorrect. All other info says the shock ending in 629 is for the standard, non-sport suspension. I see 33521091630, the M Sport rear shock on sale at AutohausAZ.com for $81.34 each. Where do you see it for $70? If you want to stick with the ones you ordered, you'll be fine, it won't hurt anything. It just won't be a stiff as it should be though. But, I think you'll be able to return the $95 standard ones from Pelican you got, get the proper ones at AutohausAZ.com and still come out ahead, and with the proper shocks! | | | 10-13-2009, 05:15 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Saint Paul, MN Posts: 3,244 | I would call Pelican ASAP and ask them to switch to the right ones or just cancel the order. BTW I have a '99 Ti as well, Alpine with gray/black interior and cali roof. What's yours equipped with? __________________ My Former Rides 1999 318ti Alpine White, Cali Roof, Dinan goodies 1996 318ti Hellrot California Edition | | | 10-13-2009, 07:03 PM | #4 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Quote: Originally Posted by 96cali I would call Pelican ASAP and ask them to switch to the right ones or just cancel the order. | +1 call them. Don't waste time sending emails and stuff. If you act quickly, you might catch it before your order ships out. It sometimes takes a day or two for Pelican to ship. | | | 10-13-2009, 07:06 PM | #5 | Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: Mesa, AZ Posts: 38 | Thanks CirrussSR22, you answered my question to the dot. I meant to say that at Pelican the M Shocks are $70 more, about $165 each. I will get the ones from AutohausAZ.com. My husband told me the same thing. I quote him "what's the point of having an M Sport if you're replacing the shocks with standard ones". I just checked with Pelican and they already shipped the shocks, but I'll return them as soon as I get them. See it was the fact that Pelican put "Sport" in front of the description that threw me off, but makes complete sense know. So that means that the M Sport comes with everything as the M3, except for engine & chasis? Thank you for all your help!! 96cali: I currently haven't really upgraded much on my Ti except for the headlights, smoked side markers, lip spoiler, & smoked backlights. I had to have the Driveshaft bearings replaced because the old ones were not only causing my tires to wear out from the inside but there was a loud noise when ever I drove above 25mph. Next will be foglights, hd radio, cold air intake (any suggestions on this by the way), tinted & fixed windows, re-do headliner, new paint job, and new black w/ chrome lip rims. But it'll probably take me another year for all this. lol __________________ *CrYsTaL* I L.O.V.E. my Bimmer!!! | | | 10-13-2009, 07:10 PM | #6 | Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: Mesa, AZ Posts: 38 | Something I forgot to ask: What are other online stores (I live in Mesa, AZ) that are best for ordering parts (besides BMW Dealership)? I've only used PelicanParts.com and now, AutohausAZ.com. __________________ *CrYsTaL* I L.O.V.E. my Bimmer!!! | | | 10-16-2009, 12:56 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | NAPA sells our shocks for $40 each, just bought some myself. Rockauto.com is also on the top of my list of places to shop. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 10-16-2009, 01:55 AM | #8 | Z3 Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Usa Posts: 660 | I bought shocks @ www.bavauto.com for a great price.
