I am now looking and mostly seeing earlier manual transmissions. Looking to use the wreck for parts. How wise would it be to settle for a manual trany? I have seen 95's and 96's manuals. I want to get the most use out of all those parts I replaced in the 99' Also are any models better than others example is the 99 better than 95? Thanks, John Paul | | | 10-14-2009, 05:17 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | If I was to buy another ti it would be a 95 or 99. '95's have the M42 engine which is much easier to mod for power or if swapping, much easier to swap a 6cyl into. Plus the this was the only year the clubsport was offered. '99 because they were the last year the ti was made and all '99's are sport models with the M tech kit as well as the M steering wheel. '99's also have vented front rotors as opposed to the solid rotors of pre ~'98.5 cars. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 10-15-2009, 02:41 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | the 95's would have the OBDI M42 engine like mentioned above, the 96-98 ti's have the OBDII M44 engine that is for the most part identical to your 99, so if you want to use parts off your 99 that would be the wisest choice you mention "settling" for a manual, is there any specific reason you'd be looking for an automatic? most members on here would agree that the standard transmission makes the car much more fun and sporty compared to the auto | | | 10-15-2009, 01:45 PM | #4 | Junior Member Join Date: Nov 2007 Location: eldorado, ON, Canada Posts: 14 | Thanks for the replies. Yes the rolled ti is an automatic. I prefer standard too. I am wondering how much this matters. Tranny different shifter different too, but are there any surprises other than that. I am looking at 98 standard.
