All three components need to be from the donor car as they have programed codes that must match in order to start the car. | | | 02-16-2010, 01:19 AM | #3 | Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: branford, CT Posts: 89 | switched ecu, ews, under the dash. took off the key one all together, should i put back on? | | | 02-16-2010, 02:59 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: Avondale, Az Posts: 203 | More info about the swap would probably help us help you. | | | 02-16-2010, 03:09 AM | #5 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Quote: Originally Posted by lionell247 switched ecu, ews, under the dash. took off the key one all together, should i put back on? | Seriously, what do you think? So what you're saying is that you swapped two of the three components and you don't have a transponder chip in your key at all? You need the chip that matches the ews module and DME of the donor car. If you can't get that chip, you need to put your old chip back in the key and tow the car to the dealer to have the three components realigned. | | | 02-16-2010, 02:13 PM | #6 | Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: branford, CT Posts: 89 | i have everything from the donor car i will put everything on....heres all the info 328i 96 into a 318ti 95 both cars had ews 328 convert to OBD1 with 413 red label. anything else u need to know. will take pictures if i have too. | | | 02-16-2010, 04:23 PM | #7 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | I'm all for helping out, but you've been around since 06, you should know how to find all of the good information here. If I were you I would post EVERYTHING about your swap so we can help you (since your swap is a bit different [328 obdi red label ect], even though everything you need to know is in almost every swap thread. With that said, listen to jess and swap the transponder chips in the keys, do not touch the antenna ring EWS module under the driver's side dash (its not key specific). | | | 02-16-2010, 05:05 PM | #8 | Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: branford, CT Posts: 89 | i will put the key antenna ring back on and try it again. ok here is the run down on the swap. i have a M52 OBD2 engine in the car, i have swaped the harness to ODB1 with 413 red label ECU everthing is plugged in and car wont start i have a red top battery. exhaust is not on the car yet i.e. oxy sensor, M3 gauge cluster, swaped key and key cylinder for the 328. cant think of anything else i had to change to make the car run.. | | | 02-16-2010, 07:19 PM | #9 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Ok, that's much more helpful. I believe both cars have ewsII so matching those three components(transponder chip, DME and ews module behind the glove compartment) should be all you need to do. Like BMW_Hatchback said, the antenna ring and ews receiver behind the driver's side dash should not be swapped. Use the original ones out of the TI. The antenna ring also has a code programmed to it and the ews receiver behind the driver's side dash receives a signal from it. Those two components must match eachother just like the other three components that you're swapping out. So to make things a little easier to understand, you have two groups of ews components that must match. The original Ti's antenna ring paired with the original ews receiver is the first group(just leave them hooked up, no need to mess with them at all). The second group is the transponder chip, ews module and DME. This alone, if done correctly, should start the car. You shouldn't run into any issues with the fuel pressure regulator like some of us since both of your cars had the FPR mounted on the engine. If by chance this doesn't work for you, which there's no reason it shouldn't, there is a way to disable ews altogether. Bluebimma has posted on this subject in several threads. Best of luck to you, hope you get her up and running soon! | | | 02-16-2010, 08:53 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: LA, Bellflower, CA Posts: 3,613 | would he be having problems with the wiring since he switched it to OBD-I? thought i read somewhere that some wires need to be cut but not sure if it correlates to the engine start problem. but just mentioning it just in case. checked the basics? everything grounded correctly? __________________ -Theta Chi- Float like a cadilac, sting like a BIMMER .... my socket is just too thick and won't fit in the hole! damnit! Cut its ews wire, but install the original ti EWS parts. The chassis itself is looking for it. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 02-20-2010, 01:55 PM | #12 | Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: branford, CT Posts: 89 | Where do I cut the ews wire?? | | | 02-20-2010, 04:05 PM | #13 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | read the diy, it shows pics I think | | | 02-20-2010, 04:06 PM | #14 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | I'm positive its a green wire, but don't cut anything until you're sure. | | | 02-20-2010, 06:38 PM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | Read my doy and you'll see what wire to cut. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
