I have a 6/95 Ti that im doing a swap on. The donor engine is from a 6/99 Mroadster 5spd with a Dinan supercharger (vortech)thats going to stay with the motor. Couple things that im not sure on how to handle if anyone could shed some light it would be much appreciated. 1) The harness on the Ti has one 20 pin round connector; the Mroadster motor has the 20 pin round connector as usual but also has a 12 pin round right next to it that carries a variety of things: slip control or (choke valve for intake), tank press. sensor, two wires to the cluster, DLC power, Charcoal filter shutoff valve and DME date to DLC. My question: is there a way to do this cleanly or what are my options, keeping in mind the vortech charger has its own boost control that is wired into the Mroadster harness. I know this seems like a lot of info and I hope I was clear but this is a mess, can anyone help please? | | | 03-16-2010, 06:12 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2008 Location: Central Florida Posts: 678 | simply put... you need the donor harness (M roadster), the Ti harness is for the M42...not to mention that your Ti is a 95' and the donor is a 99', going from an OBDI car to OBDII car/engine as well... Engine + Harness + DME + EWS + Cluster should make for an easier job with less headaches... and if you have the donor car, I would do a complete rear end swap as well, since it's coming from an M roadster. Good Luck with your project, it sounds like it'll be one quick son of a gun!... __________________ 2LT Rodriguez CA ARNG TURBO 96' Sport, Alaska Blue, Auto Custom JohnBoy Turbo, Midnight-Tunning Software, HKS BOV, e-Pod Gauge Pod, BavAuto Springs, Bilstein Sport, e30 3.73 LSD, Depo P36, Apexcone 55w HID, OEM Spoiler, M3 Lip, M3 Mesh Grill, Crossdrilled Rear Rotors, M3 Front Brakes, Sparco 3 point Harness, Euro M3 Wheel, K&N cone, Clear Corner/Sides/Tails, M3 Center Console & Arm-rest, M3 Red Cluster Needles, M3 Mirrors & Side Skirts, RD Exhaust, DS-1 wheels!... Im wondering if there is a chip or software that would delete the secondary air and possibly the tank leak diagnosis pump. LOL the car will be quick for sure however the swap doesnt seem like it will be so quick. There are NO chips for OBDII, only DME/Computer Re-programing or Flashing. The rear end swap will be a must for the Ti to handle all of that power. Most Ti's are open Diff plus the shafts are skinny... The swap will give you the proper final drive with the LSD diff and heftier shafts with the added brake upgrade. I should point out that the front M roadster brakes will be needed as well to stop that power! This of course if you have the donor car at hand, if not you have a long road ahead, because you will need lots of parts from it to complete the swap and have a working vehicle. I myself have no experience swapping, but I have read and followed others on this board to know it's not as simple as it looks... even from cars of the same year, not to mention OBDI to OBDII. __________________ 2LT Rodriguez CA ARNG TURBO 96' Sport, Alaska Blue, Auto Custom JohnBoy Turbo, Midnight-Tunning Software, HKS BOV, e-Pod Gauge Pod, BavAuto Springs, Bilstein Sport, e30 3.73 LSD, Depo P36, Apexcone 55w HID, OEM Spoiler, M3 Lip, M3 Mesh Grill, Crossdrilled Rear Rotors, M3 Front Brakes, Sparco 3 point Harness, Euro M3 Wheel, K&N cone, Clear Corner/Sides/Tails, M3 Center Console & Arm-rest, M3 Red Cluster Needles, M3 Mirrors & Side Skirts, RD Exhaust, DS-1 wheels!... | | | 03-16-2010, 08:15 PM | #6 | Junior Member Join Date: Mar 2010 Location: St. Louis Posts: 15 | Oops Sorry guys, it just occured to me since the Ti is a 5/95 there is no need for it to go in for emissions. Also I feel inclined to tell everyone I am doing this for a customer and is not my personal vehicle, I really wish it was though Now to figure out how to make the wiring look pretty. Ill try to get some pics up soon. | | | 03-17-2010, 05:14 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Portland Or Posts: 2,666 | I would only attempt this with the complete front OBDII harness. You can always fool the ECU flash etc, but the harness makes all the engine accessories work, and some are more important than others. Is the customer aware that without all the gear the car is not really legal? Cause if he ever sells it and the buyer tries to smog it it can get ugly.... I had to weld on some studs on the control arms for the brake line holders cause the roadster control arms didnt have them. oddly enough i found out the hard way that as far as i can tell the roadster rear hubs are farther apart L to R than the Ti hubs thus the ebrake cables are about an inch too short when i put them into all three holders so I will be welding two more studs (one on each side) to the brake hose/line mounting point to give me enough effective length to insert the ebrake cable into the body. Sorry about no pics yet I thought i could transfer from my phone but my phone didnt agree. Ill be bringing my new digital to work now. PS. Yes the customer is aware of the anti smog campaign im about to unleash on it , I do have the entire harness free of any damage, its still hooked to the motor along with the DME. THanks for the input everyone, im sure ill need more along the way. | | | 03-19-2010, 03:24 AM | #12 | Junior Member Join Date: Mar 2010 Location: St. Louis Posts: 15 | Finally Was able to email some photos from my phone to myself so here are a couple of starter ones just from the past couple days, more and better ones one the way! Looking at them side by side. Front of Ti The poor roadster donor Ti carrier coming out. One of you will be loosing their shirt tails on hours billed. Me, I would have converted the S52 to an OBD I engine and ran it with an OBD I wiring harness and had a proper chip burnt for it. Going OBD I would allow you to use the M/S50 manifold which is larger. The supercharger/s52 combo OBD I set up should be good for about 320 hp depending on trim of SC and ECU setup. | | | 03-19-2010, 04:32 AM | #15 | Junior Member Join Date: Mar 2010 Location: St. Louis Posts: 15 | As of right now no body work is in order, right now the goal is to get the chassis right and the drivetrain complete. Funny m-tech should mention it but I dont plan on making hours, this seemed like a rare opportunity for everyone involved. Also right now as it sits the roadster was dyno'd at 368hp at the wheels so since it has the same drivetrain I imagine it will be close to that. The harness as of right now no plan on making it obd1 but who knows what could happen. I read on some other threads that jim has a guide that has lots of info of obd2 swaps, how do you get ahold of one of these? Sleepy so im off to bed. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
