You can fix this with new wiring and relays, but id honestly just get another harness and be done with it.

I'm with Bluebima on that one...

If the harness is hacked up, you are asking for trouble. I thought you were just missing relays...

Often when you buy a harness, it comes with the relays in place. Be sure to check/ask.

I hope no one thinks less of me but I work like 50 h a week . So I am getting my bmw specialist buddy to do the wiring . I got it to turn over but no fuel .I had the relays clicking but no ground switched 12+ to pin 87 on the relay .

If indeed the wiring if ****ed It would take me like a month at the present pace .

Ive dealt with a couple of hack jobs when it comes to harnesses, the best way to rewire them is not to do so. Back when i had my m44, a friend of mine tried to help me with a no start issue and thought it was the Fuel Pump relay, so he put in another relay, same color, absolutely incorrect relay. When turned to the on position, it instantly fried a single wire. I cut the ignition before any other damage was done and replaced that single wire. Once the correct issue, unground dme, was fixed, the engine would run until it was warmed up, then safe mode kicked it to 2300 max rpm. Dealership looked over it, aligned a new DME (just in case it was fried), and checked over all the wiring that would be affected along with corresponding parts. Nothing fixed it. Got a used harness from a ti guy, installed, perfection. IMO, stop wasting time, sweat, and money with a pre-hacked engine harness. They are too plentiful to do so, and too cheap not to get a fresh (used) one.

Update . I got a new harness . Wouldn't turn over ... This is the sweet and simple to the whole wiring thing is

recap

My car :
318ti 1996 with ews (obd2)

Engine :
Single vanos m50 (1993)with the same year wiring harness (obd1) and red label 413 motronic ecu (obd1).
(The silver label 413 will not work )

To get it to start you must do the following .

1. Check your grounds

Step 2 can be skipped if your engine harness you are using can from a car without ews .

2.Clip pin #66 on the DME plug .

This disables your ews from your dme.

(This will allow you to get spark and fuel)

Step 3

-For the starter you need to open the glove box. Remove the screws holding the glove box in . There are 4 on the front and on on the side .

Look for the plug with the big blk/yellow wire , Clip it . On the same clip look for the big green wire that has the same guage and the blk/yellow one , clip it . Strip both wires and solder them together .

Turn the key to test starter.

Who wrote that nonsense about the stuff behind the glovebox????? Thats a VERY VERY bad idea to touch anything else besides the EWS wire in the engine bay, dme, and having the correct E36 vanos engine harness. Even if you have a silver labeled 413 DME, cutting the ews wire will disable EWS because its only EWSI, not EWSII.
