Just remove the kick panel on the drivers side, along with the knee bolster. You also need to remove the center console, the air pipe under the dash, and the cowl under the hood. It's probaby the easiest heater core to change. I'll send you some pics if you PM your e-mail. | | | 10-20-2010, 07:26 AM | #19 | Member Join Date: May 2010 Location: Los Angeles Posts: 55 | do you guys know the part numbers for the 2 hoses that i need that run from the fire wall the water valve/other? My heater core has been bypassed so maybe i can still use the one hose that is being used for the bypass, and buy the remaining one? __________________ '97 318ti Active; '05 330ci ZHP | | | 10-25-2010, 02:23 AM | #20 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Oxford, Ohio Posts: 868 | Check out realoem.com It should look something like this, but be sure to enter you car's info on this site to make sure you get the right stuff. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...02&hg=64&fg=18 | | | 10-26-2010, 01:20 AM | #21 | Member Join Date: May 2010 Location: Los Angeles Posts: 55 | Thanks. Yea I have been looking on realoem.com. The diagrams are a bit confusing because it only shows the 1 hose that runs to the firewall. I think i have found the other hose. Its found on another diagram on realoem: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...11&fg=35&hl=14 #13. do you guys know if this is the other hose that runs from the heater core? http://www.rmeuropean.com/Part-Numbe...0-0eecc06aebe3 thanks for the replies! __________________ '97 318ti Active; '05 330ci ZHP | | | 10-26-2010, 01:50 AM | #22 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2010 Location: Wichita, KS Posts: 111 | Thanks, that may come in handy some day... | | | 10-26-2010, 04:23 AM | #23 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Oxford, Ohio Posts: 868 | Try this diagram instead http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...02&hg=64&fg=18 When My heater core went bad I bypassed it, too. I did this by removing a hose. To be specific, I removed the one which goes from the heater control valve to the drivers side heater core tube. Then I ran the hose which you are talking about buying (part no. 64211387010) to the upper port on the heater valve. So if the heater core was bypassed like mine was, then you have that hose (part no. 64211387010) in your car still. The one you need is item 4 shown on the link I posted. It does not look like that picture at all, though. It's a very short, bent up hose. Last edited by dave45056; 10-26-2010 at 05:17 AM. Item 13 is a difficult hose to remove. However, If you find you are missing that hose, be sure to replave the plastic fitting it connects to. They break. When it does, you will overheat. There is another y-shaped plastic fitting on the back of the head which has the same problem. My car is 1995 so I don't have that one. I hear it is hard to replace due to limited space. | | | 10-26-2010, 05:30 PM | #26 | Member Join Date: May 2010 Location: Los Angeles Posts: 55 | thanks for the tip Dave. Yes, looks like i need both hoses Valve to heater core hose heater core to engine hose. Heres a pic of what the heater core connector looks like on a 1997 m44. The engine runs strong and never over heats, so that is a good sign. Does anyone know what potential problems, not having the heater core return hose hooked up to the heater core (as seems to be the case) might cause? __________________ '97 318ti Active; '05 330ci ZHP | | | 10-26-2010, 06:23 PM | #27 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Oxford, Ohio Posts: 868 | Can you take a picture of your heater valve, too? | | | 12-18-2010, 09:11 PM | #28 | Junior Member Join Date: Jun 2009 Location: Maryland Posts: 8 | I have a 96 318ti with 176k on it. My heater has started blowing cool air at idle, but when I rev up to 2k-3k it blows hot air! Is this my heater core or the thermostat something else? | | | 12-18-2010, 09:34 PM | #29 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2010 Location: Wichita, KS Posts: 111 | At idle, your pump is just pushing less hot water through the heater. They all do that to some extent. Even with an S50 engine in my car I can feel the heater less effective at idle than when driving. But the heater core is just a small radiator, and can get plugged just like the main radiator -- that would feel like the heater valve was not all the way open. If it was the thermostat, the water temp gage would read low. | | | 01-14-2011, 07:37 PM | #30 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2010 Location: Scranton/Wilkes-barre area PA Posts: 454 | My car has no heat at all! It blows iceicles actually lol I tryed bleeding the coolant like five times. It helped a little bit for the next couple days but now im thinking its the haeter core. :/ about how much does a heater core run? __________________ ***Derek*** ^^Lola^^ Pioneer radio/ Pioneer 6-Disk CD Changer/ JBL 601.1 Grand Touring Amplifier/ Bilstein Sport shocks/ Bilstein e36sedan springs/ Green LED Courtesy Lights Accident Counter: 3... | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
