Default Glad to join the forum!

Greetings everyone,

I've been a ti owner for about a month now; I work for a used car dealership in Miami, and was lucky enough to stumble into a 97 318 ti that someone traded in to us. I haven't been able to sort out much of my car's history; it had 66,000 miles on her when I bought it. So far I've put about 3K on it as my daily driver between Miami and Fort Lauderdale. It needs the basics for a car of this age; the lower control arm bushings and ball joints are shot, the driver door window regulator already went out, and I need to buy some hood/hatch struts. Still, after being a career GM guy (everything from an S-10 to a CTS-V), I am enjoying my first taste of being a BMW owner.

Again, thanks for having such a great resource for us 318 newbies!

-DT

Welcome to the .org, DT! Great find on a low mileage ti, too...

FYI, there is a thread about replacement hatch shocks being able to use the ones from a blazer (usually alot cheaper). And Cooljess' window thread is the best diy on the forum.

Oh, and post up some pics!

Thanks for the welcome. I'll work on some pics once I get her out of the shop...I wanted to figure out exactly what the car needed, so I took it to Vista BMW in Pompano Beach. They have a "vintage" BMW program...discounted parts and labor for owners of older BMWs. The full repair estimate was $2100 for a car I bought for $2500; I've already replaced the regulator, and now I have a good shopping list to work on for the future. I gotta give props to the guys at Vista...they've taken great care of me so far.

You are saying the ti is now vintage?
God I feel old. No wise cracks!

$2100 sounds steep to me, vintage program my foot. If I had known you needed anything done to your car I would have told you to stay away from the dealership. There are many shops here locally that could take care of you next time you are in need.

No worries, man. I'm not doing the whole repair with Vista; I'm replacing a power steering line now and doing as much as I can later at my own shop. I did want to at least get some BMW-educated eyes on it first though.
