Default 1996 318 Ti M Sport - Major Nose Damage

Looking for Advice, a shop or help getting my 318 back on the road.

Bought it back as they totalled it.

Got a line on some parts - Take a look.

Thanks a lot

forget it man. part it out and move on.

it will cost you alot more then you think to fix that car up (if it is even fixable) i would have to take a bet and say the frame is bent in the front. even if you fix it, some bolt or rod somewhere might be slightly bent, and the car will destroy tires or drive wrong.

even if a shop said the frame is not bent, alot of times it really is.

also, the car is now worthless, since the title is "salvage". the resale value dropped to nothing. maybe $2k if it is fully fixed, low miles and fresh paint. vs $4k - $5 if it did not have the salvage title.

i mean, if you are set on fixing it, i have a black 98 with a few good parts (bumper, fender, headlight, airbox, air ducts, and a slightly bent hood, control arms/tie rods, suspension, along with some other stuff). you could buy my parts car (or the parts) but still, it would be alot of work and money for the parts i do not have.

i would also be worried about all the wiring in the front (alot of wires that run around. might mean that their is a short and maybe alot of wires will need to be replaced) power steering, front tower (very thin metal), all the radiator hoses and the thermostat housing, all the control arms will be messed up. radiator will be gone, along with the AC condenser and if it is Auto, the auto condenser.

just trying to help you out.. if you have space, part it out. if you do not, sell it "as-is" for like 1k.

What kind of estimate does the body shop give you,,,?

Locally here in Portland OR the BMW dealer body shop is actually competitive with the rest and they did awesome work and beat up the insurance agent for me

With just the one pic its hard to tell but until its apart you really wont know...

The salvage title thing will hurt, but on the other hand if you can come out even with whatever is left from the buyback, it makes the car semi expendable, you can track it, play and be just a little bit less worried about the car. My 95 will barely net 3500 here in my town. Heck I just saw one on Craigs list locally in PDX this week. http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/cto/2300531062.html and its gota turbo....

an m-sport should get about 2k - 3k in parts pretty easy. if you fix it up, you will get less when you try to sell it. hence why i suggest parting it out and using that money to buy one with either less damage (and use the parts on yours) or just buy one in good shape. atleast, then you know if you get into an accident in the future, or if you want to sell the car later, you will get some money for it.

also, getting a salvage car back on the road is like jumping through hoops. special shops, special people, higher rates to look at it (and they will be picky about it) and then you need to resubmit your title.

but to be honest, it doesn't look like the damage is to bad, but the hood is so badly bent, i am alittle scared.. i would def need to see pictures under the hood.

Its all relative to your state, in mine its nothing. a 1 page form and nothing else, you just end up with a branded title.

Now if I had to joust with the DMV? I'm done its not worth it... Life is too short.
I've used a public storage to part out a car before, I took it apart in my driveway and stored everything in the storage locker then ebayed it off.

I've also fixed a car by stripping off the skin on the front, take it to a frame specialty shop and had them pull the car straight, then seam welded the areas that were damaged.

These cars are not that rare, especially out west, it is very likely cheaper to part it then buy a new car and red-eye it out to pick it up... If you can get someone to look at it, I'd suggest having a seller send a lot of pics, then pay for the dealer to do a survey.

I'm looking for parts. You should start a new thread for that though and give me first grabs

Your interior...full (all panels and seats), since it's red millpoint, You should be able to get between $500 to $800. It really depends on the condition and what people are willing to pay. I would love to have that interior, but I don't have the funds for it. That's one thing that will sell fast.

Start a 'For Sale" thread.

If the front bumper lip isn't mangled to much. I'll take it. And the rear valence.

Default 318Ti Part Out - Not yet

I appreciate the many many many E-mails and PM's for my car.

I will be traveling alot in the next 2 weeks and will not have time to list and part out the car.

I have your requests in order and once I list it as a part out I will contact you.

I will be listing when I can actually service your requests.

Thanks for understanding

John

Default 1998 m-sport

Found it on CL and was listed on here - Wisconsin

Pretty clean but needs some work.

Going to put on the Super Sprint Exhaust from my 1996 on it, Dinan Intake and Dinan Chip.

Headliner is shot and needs a drivers side seat cover - going to be pricey!

Leaks oil - The guy said it was bone dry - This bothered me a bit

Paint is pretty good
