I still get mad at myself just thinking about it Now I'm stuck, I have to either go widebody or weld in another lip With a fender roller, you can roll it out just as far as you would've trimmed it to anyway, in fact you can roll it out even further. Turns out, I didn't even need to, it wasn't the fender lip that was rubbing after I rolled mine, it was the top corner of the rear bumper. The inner plastic on the rear bumper right where it meets the wheel arch was rubbing on my tires. Dremeled a little material off of the inside, wasn't visible from the outside and no more rubbing. | | | 07-20-2011, 07:13 AM | #94 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2010 Location: Riverside ,So-Cal Posts: 725 | dude i want see a full car pic lol with ur new spacers __________________ EURO FRESH Last edited by Ralliart10; 07-20-2011 at 07:17 AM. | | | 08-03-2011, 08:36 AM | #95 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2010 Location: Potomac Falls VA DMV Posts: 1,794 | SWAP IS COMING SOOOOONNNN! really soon. One of my buddies is putting a whole new motor And trans in his 96 m3. Soo. He's hooking me up big time. I'm getting his 150k s52 that has a dinan'ed tuned ecu, full exhaust (sounds ungodly), after market clutch, UUC evo3, DSSR, 3.5 inch maf. I'm gonna be doing a m50 manifold on it. Were doing a compression test tomorrow, it has had the whole cooling system done about 15k ago. Has EVERYTHING needed for a swap, cluster, wiring harness (it's obdII, same year as my 96). The only things I need is alternator, front part of the m3 driveshaft, motor mounts, new radiator houses, and I'm gonna do a upgraded fuel pump. All of this for... 1800! And install from my buddy is... 500! Go Alec. Im so stoked. This **** gonna haul! Haha. It should only take a week and a half to two weeks. But my engine doesn't look at dope as yours! Unfortunately, a mirror polished engine is worthless unless it's in a car and running. And even then, the only parts that are visible are the oil filter housing/cap, thermostat housing and the vanos unit. If your engine runs well, I vote drop it in and drive it. Don't take anything apart! I removed my timing cover to replace a leaking gasket, it snowballed from there. Once I removed the bolts for the timing cover, there was no turning back. At the time I didn't realize that there were three bolts holding it on from INSIDE of the head. So by removing the lower timing cover bolts, the factory seal was broken and the only way to get it to seal again was with new gaskets. But then I found out that I couldn't even get the timing cover off to replace the gaskets without removing the cam sprockets, vanos assembly and a bunch of other stuff. So while the timing cover was off, I figured I'd spend a few minutes and polish it. This is where the OCD kicks in. Once you install a polished piece onto the engine, everything else looks dull and dirty. I mean, you can't have a mirror polished timing cover with a crappy looking thermostat housing right above it. You can't have a shiny thermostat housing with a ugly vanos unit right above it. You can't have a sparkling vanos unit with a nasty oil filter cap right next to it. You can't have a blinged out oil filter cap on top of a dull and greasy oil filter housing. Trust me, that's just breaking the surface. Once you get all of that stuff done, then you're gonna want a new alternator. Then you're gonna want a shiny power steering pump. Then you're gonna want a shiny A/C compressor. Then you're gonna want polished or wrapped headers. But of course you'll need all new nuts and bolts for this stuff because you don't want to assemble it with chewed up rusty hardware. Before you know it, you'll be polishing the oil pan There comes a point where you've invested so much time and pride in your work, that a plain M50 manifold just won't look good enough to mount on your masterpiece. This goes on and on with everything until you realize nothing is "good enough" and you end up like me. Just be happy with the S52 power and don't focus on looks. There'll be plenty of time for that later, in the meantime you could/should be driving your car. FWIW, my engine ran fine when I bought it. But it's been apart for so long and I've done so many modifications, I don't even know if it'll start and run properly when I do finally drop it in. Heck, I can't even remember where any of the vacuum lines and electrical connectors go! Godspeed Alec! Can't wait to see your car on the road!
