Hello Everyone. I know I haven't been on here in a long time. The bad news is a teenage punk side swiped my car and damaged the entire driver's side of the car. Geico is estimating the damage, most likely a total loss. The good news is there is no mechanical damage, so I can drive the car. At this point, since I can drive the car, I will probably drive it till Spring, and then part it out and buy another car. For those interested in parts, see my garage page to get an idea of what this car has. Geico said I can keep the car minus salvage, and I have many desirable parts on the car. Just to make this clear from the start, when I do decide to remove and or sell parts, any buyer interested in large/heavy items MUST come pick them up. More info to come when Geico gives me the final dollar value. I am more than happy to help anyone remove parts from this car, if and when they come to NY to buy them. __________________ 1998 (July) 318ti, 5-spd OEM Armrest Blaupunkt Heidelberg CD50 CD Player/Compact Drive MP3 Player Diamond Audio 5.25" rear speakers Navman ICN 530 GPS BMWALARM.COM (with comfort settings) after market alarm system Magnecor 8.5mm wires M-Z3 Shifter/Momo Knob Burlwood Dashboard Stromung Exhaust X-brace Racing Dynamics Front Strut Bar Carbonio C.A.I. 17" Rial Rims Vader Seats/Heated/Lumbar Support M-tech Steering Wheel/Front Sway Bar/Front & Rear Bumper Depos/w 6500K Angel Eyes/6000K HIDs Clear Corners M3 Mirrors UUC Light Weight Flywheel/M5 Clutch/M3 Clutch Slave E28 3.46 LSD/Mcoupe Cover/E30 Flanges & Halfshafts UUC S.S. I'm sorry Eric Hopefully it will all work out, I can probably get you a REALLY good quote from my uncles body shop if you want to try and keep her? I'm interested in parts if you decide that way as well but i know how you feel about that car. He'll I'd be interested in the whole car for the Girl as its easier to fix than the one shes currently driving into the ground. | | | 01-18-2012, 06:08 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2011 Location: Philly Posts: 605 | hopefully geico can help you out well enough :/ at least now you can not feel so worried about getting scratches and dings | | | 01-18-2012, 06:11 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: Manassas, VA Posts: 4,129 | Thanks, but I'm not sure I wanna try and fix it. I also have a shop who is a friend. In the end, it's probably better I take the insurance money, drive the car till spring, then part it out. I checked Kelly Blue book, and at the very best, the car is worth $3000, so I can assume it's gonna be a total loss. He said I can keep the car minus salvage value, which he claims isn't very high, we'll see about that. Lots of really good stuff on this car, and if needed, I can store all the parts in the basement. I'm guessing the fender and door are just plug and play. I could use a trailer hitch. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti 2003 MINI Cooper S 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 01-18-2012, 06:40 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: Manassas, VA Posts: 4,129 | That's exactly my concern, the rear corner panel. I asked the adjuster, and he said that repair is the biggest issue. Quote: Originally Posted by 1996 328ti I guess the biggest repair would be the rear panel. The door you can work around by getting a new one and centrally painting it but the side panel is attached to like the whole rear and roof which is huge hah. | | | 01-18-2012, 07:37 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: Manassas, VA Posts: 4,129 | The biggest issue for me is what to buy next. The 1 series hatch is never coming, so I guess I must compromise and get the coupe. All other cars....Audi A3.....Volvo C30 are FWD and or not 2 door. This sucks....no good options. It's got to be a two door RWD made in Europe with a manual tranny, no compromise on that criteria __________________ 1998 (July) 318ti, 5-spd OEM Armrest Blaupunkt Heidelberg CD50 CD Player/Compact Drive MP3 Player Diamond Audio 5.25" rear speakers Navman ICN 530 GPS BMWALARM.COM (with comfort settings) after market alarm system Magnecor 8.5mm wires M-Z3 Shifter/Momo Knob Burlwood Dashboard Stromung Exhaust X-brace Racing Dynamics Front Strut Bar Carbonio C.A.I. 17" Rial Rims Vader Seats/Heated/Lumbar Support M-tech Steering Wheel/Front Sway Bar/Front & Rear Bumper Depos/w 6500K Angel Eyes/6000K HIDs Clear Corners M3 Mirrors UUC Light Weight Flywheel/M5 Clutch/M3 Clutch Slave E28 3.46 LSD/Mcoupe Cover/E30 Flanges & Halfshafts UUC S.S.
