No offense, but if you're asking these kinds of questions, I'm not sure the S50B32 is the right motor for the car. What are your power goals? 321 hp can be had much easier in a variety of ways much simpler to attain | | | 12-22-2013, 12:38 AM | #3 | Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: branford, CT Posts: 89 | Thanks for your input, but I'm asking these questions because I have an OBD1 car, I had to change the OBD2 M52 engine to OBD1 which is a single Vanos. the double Vanos is a different animal and the S50B32 is a OBD2 engine. Also IMO the S50B32 is the best inline 6 BMW has made and in the US being rare. I've soured an engine for 1600 bucks with 6 speed trans. So since the S50B32 isn't widely available in the US i haven't had time to play with one nor see a swap for myself. But thanks for your input | | | 12-22-2013, 02:57 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2011 Location: Vancouver, B.C. I'm gonna say he knows what he has because you don't just fall into selling an engine and tranny like that. Please check and double check this out before you buy it, because for $1600 for an s50b32 and 6spd, I'm gonna say it probably pooched, cracked block, overheated head something like that, syncro's in the tranny are shot or ground down, maybe the tranny has had overheating issues. Doesn't seem legit, or like I said it's stolen. People don't just sell that stuff cheap. If it's legit good luck with the swap it should be an amazing combo when finished! But don't burn yourself out of $1600, and make sure you know what an s50b32 looks like, he could try and pull a fast one and sell you an m50/m52/s50 non euro, if you don't know the difference. __________________ -Alex 1995 Bmw 318ti - Cordoba rot | | | 12-22-2013, 01:13 PM | #5 | Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: branford, CT Posts: 89 | Quote: Originally Posted by Romak Either the engine/tranny are stolen or that guy has no idea what he's selling is. Possibly buying titanium valves and string. The only this I don't want to touch is the trans besides changing the fluid to royal purple. | | | 12-22-2013, 05:11 PM | #6 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | Well to answer your original question, I would get as much as I could from the donor car as possible. That goes for any swap | | | 12-23-2013, 04:27 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: Globally Posts: 1,162 | S54 is a better choice and far more common here in the US. Plus you can easily put the six speed in as well. | | | 12-23-2013, 07:48 PM | #8 | Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: branford, CT Posts: 89 | I found a S54 E46 M3 6 speed with only 54k miles $1797.09 before shipping to the US. i also found a S54 CSL $2123.84 to many Choices so little time! | | | 01-29-2014, 02:57 AM | #9 | Member Join Date: May 2012 Location: Northridge, CA Posts: 40 | I second the S54. Having recently swapped and owned an S54 E30 M3, it's a better choice from a cost vs. benefit perspective IMO. | | | 01-29-2014, 09:01 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: Globally Posts: 1,162 | Quote: Originally Posted by lionell247 I found a S54 E46 M3 6 speed with only 54k miles $1797.09 before shipping to the US. i also found a S54 CSL $2123.84 to many Choices so little time! | Wow that's cheap. The Euro engines S50B30 or S50B32, are not going to be OBD compliant, in OEM form. They just don't have obd ports - that's a North American protocol, not a ROW one. | | | 08-25-2014, 06:24 AM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: LA, Bellflower, CA Posts: 3,613 | I wonder if a US dme can be programmed with s50b32 protocols and still have obd compliance... ? __________________ -Theta Chi- Float like a cadilac, sting like a BIMMER .... my socket is just too thick and won't fit in the hole! damnit!
