If your talking about the 'fan delete' mod then AFAIK that's only for 6 cylinder motors

Yep, my thoughts exactly. However, on E46fanatics.com there's this guy driving a saloon 318iS E36 (aka "Procar") who has this mod in his modist... Unfortunately I've been trying to reach him for quite some time now without succes...

ehhh... well M44's ALREADY have an Electric fan right??? Well That's all... removing the Clutch fan and replacing it with an electric, Changing some sensors and Adding Watter wetter is what they call fan mod.
Step by Step info on Rouge's site. diy.

Ok definitive answer 318ti's, including the M42 1995, came with electric fans. So the fan mod is not possible. Other e36 318 variants can do the fan mod because they do not have the electric fan. I am not sure exactly what ones though.

I thought the fan delete for the S52 was complete removal of the fan, using a lower temp thermostat and water wetter (obviously, only suitable for certain climates).

Maybe there are two.

I think there are two versions. I have seen just removing the the fan so it doesn't do anything, but I think some people just finish it off be removing the entire fan.

I guess if you really wanted to you could take off the electric fan of the M42/44, but there isn't really horsepower/torque gain since it does not run off of the crank shaft.

uhm, sorry, incorrect. My M42 does not have an electric fan as it runs via a pulley on the crankshaft. That's just the whole idea; to modify this setup to an electric one so the crankshaft gets liberated from this task.

What year/model do you have?

Its possible someone didn't "trust" the electric fan and switched
it to an early mechanical fan?

Curiouser and curiouser...

I drive a 1993 M42 powered Coupé. I checked and this pulley-setup is genuine OEM. Till 1996 all M42-powered coupés use pulleys in Europe.

So my question again, lol: any way I can convert to an electric fan ?

I said that other M42 318 variants CAN do the fan mod. Since you have a 1993 coupe you can do the mod. The US market 318ti's including the M42 powered 318ti have electric fans.

EDIT-For US market cars.

Andrei; can you add that you're from Romania in your profile? It's helpful for us to note when and where things differ between our cars.
