Building up the engine to do so would be quite cost-ineffective, and would be harder than just swapping in an I6. I'm not discouraging you from buying a ti, but it would be in your best interest to research and learn about the car first. Make sure it's really what you want. I did, and I couldn't be happier with it as my first car, but you might want something different. __________________ -Kenny | | | 03-17-2006, 06:02 AM | #4 | Junior Member Join Date: Mar 2006 Location: Inverness, Scotland UK Posts: 2 | Im currently half way through a conversion on a 316i sport compact conversion by dropping a 328i engine into it. The latter is most definitely the ti, but the former might be better found in a JDM car. It is also cheaper to make an import faster. I have no idea who your brother is. I know him....Man me and him go waaay back. Seriously though; think about doing an engine swap if you plan on beating m3's. Running FI on an m44 or m42 and tuning it so that you can run with M3s is probably going to cost more than simply doing an s52 or s50 swap, which will pretty much guarantee you success in reaching your goal. __________________ | | | 03-17-2006, 11:28 AM | #7 | Junior Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Glasgow Scotland Posts: 5 | Quote: Originally Posted by Scottish Loon Im currently half way through a conversion on a 316i sport compact conversion by dropping a 328i engine into it. Do you have any track experience? My advice is learn to drive the crap out of a 4 banger. When I had my 4 cylinder I had no problem pulling away from M3s in the twisties. Straights, well that's another thing. What kind of track events are you talking about anyway? __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 03-19-2006, 03:07 AM | #12 | Junior Member Join Date: Mar 2006 Posts: 3 | autox..anyways if thats true than thats good enough for me, i could do a few things to the engine i'll be happy with that. thanks. i have no experience i'm a newb...just videogame experience lol | | | 03-19-2006, 07:01 AM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2005 Location: Boston MA Posts: 221 | I believe upgrading the driver is more important than upgrading the engine. By that, I mean plenty of track time on club driving school. __________________ 1998 BMW 318ti M-Tech Sport Silver (Gone to member leeko617) CURRENT: 2015 BMW X1, 2004 BMW 330ci Convertible, 1998 Porsche Boxster, 2001 BMW 525i Touring GONE: 2000 Audi A4, 2002 VW Passat, 1985 VW Cabriolet | | | 03-19-2006, 08:29 AM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2004 Location: Muncie, Indiana Posts: 1,551 | I hear evolution auto-x school are fantastic. www.autocross.com/evolution/ | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
