Sorry to say, but you'll be hard-pressed to beat an M3 without an engine swap. Building up the engine to do so would be quite cost-ineffective, and would be harder than just swapping in an I6. I'm not discouraging you from buying a ti, but it would be in your best interest to research and learn about the car first. Make sure it's really what you want. I did, and I couldn't be happier with it as my first car, but you might want something different.

Im currently half way through a conversion on a 316i sport compact conversion by dropping a 328i engine into it. Engine swap the best way forward i think, or poss a downing atlanta supercharger

Are you looking for fast in a straight line or fast around a track? The latter is most definitely the ti, but the former might be better found in a JDM car. It is also cheaper to make an import faster.

I have no idea who your brother is. Should I?

Yeah, the dude in Florida who drives the BMW! I know him....Man me and him go waaay back.

Seriously though; think about doing an engine swap if you plan on beating m3's. Running FI on an m44 or m42 and tuning it so that you can run with M3s is probably going to cost more than simply doing an s52 or s50 swap, which will pretty much guarantee you success in reaching your goal.

aright thanks a lot...and i want it to be fast on the track not on a straight line. ...i heard it can keep up wit m3's on the track.. but if it were a little faster it could beat em...maybe an e30 would be a better idea...a 6 cylinder?

You want to keep up with M3s?
Do you have any track experience?
My advice is learn to drive the crap out of a 4 banger.
When I had my 4 cylinder I had no problem pulling away from M3s in the twisties. Straights, well that's another thing.

What kind of track events are you talking about anyway?

I believe upgrading the driver is more important than upgrading the engine. By that, I mean plenty of track time on club driving school.
