Knock sensor code with knocking problem

So i'm driving my 98 318ti (m44) home last night and I noticed that my car's engine starts to chatter quite a bit. It's never done this before. So I think hmm ok maybe it will go away. In the morning it doesn't do it. The check engine light procedes to come on and i'm like sh!t. Still no chattering though. Then on the way back home again today it starts to do it again but not as bad as last night. I went to go the codes checked and apparently both the knock sensors are faulty??? Would it be possible for both of them to go out at the same time?? Is there any other problems that might cause this code? Anyone else has this problem? Please folks, any help would be greatly appreciated! Also, to replace them it looks like I have to take off the intake manifold? Is this correct?

yes it is correct.... you will need to remove the upper and lower manifolds. whether they both go out or not, while you have the manifold removed it would make sense to replace both so you wont have to rip the manifold apart for a while. it would suck if you only replaced one ... and a few months later the other one goes out.
